How much would it cost to open a gym?

I'm not talking about a panzy ass health club, but a hardcore gym. The kind that has nothing but free weights and maybe a couple machines. Any info is welcomed. I don't have any specifics as to square footage b/c I just though about it and wanted to get a reasonable estimate.

*in Dr. Evil's voice* "1 million dollars.....MMMMMUUUUUUHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAAAA"

Actually, that's probably about right if it's a high quality one with franchise rights like Powerhouse or Golds.

I was thinking about venturing into it with a friend of mine , that is until I found out how much it costs..

Plus you have to be financially stable for the first 2 years until you build a name and get a solid client base..

The cheapest in NY that ive heard so far is $400K

And this is in some shitty ass hood with used Equipment.....

It was just a crazy thought that popped in my head and I was curious. I was thinking around $1million but I wanted some other opinions to make sure. Maybe once I win the $28million lottery tomorrow night I'll open up a badass hardcore gym. That would be the shiot.

If you are talking about a GYM then it shouldn't be anywhere that much. A hardcore gym could get by on less that 1000 sq ft...much less. After I get my Strength and Conditioning Certification I plan on seriously looking into it.

Now if you are talking about a franchise(fitness center) then you will run into money.

yea I thought about it more and simple free weights, racks, benches, licenses, permits, and whatever else shouldn't be as much as I was previously thinking. 1000sq ft seems a little small though. Maybe 2000sq ft. Oh well just another thing to add to my wishlist.:(

hi

Hi, well I was thinking about doing something like opening a nice big gym, but then I though of competition, like florida fitnees, there going out of business, but most important question i asked myself was, how would I get members to join my gym.
If you start up I wish you the best of luck!
