How much should gyno surgery cost?

I saved up and just got mine done for $6,000 although I shopped around and could have gotten it done for as cheap as $2,000. It was worth it though in my opinion to goto a top plastic surgeon. My surgery was supposed to take 2 hours and I think it was just under 2 hrs and I was put under which was nice. IDK why the fk people would want to be awake.

In CHICAGO's GOLD COAST -- i.e. POSH $$$$, my doctor, named one of the best in plastic surgery by Chicago Magazine, Yale educated MD, I paid $1000. He quoted me $1000 for one side but then when I said make it both sides (for symmetry) I said c'mon its not that much more work. It was a 45 minutes procedure, local anesthetic and he runs that cannula back and forth scraping out the entire mass. So, $800 may not be very low especially for a mild case. But I seriously doubt he has my guy's education, reputation, and skills. Remember, a lot of these ops are now done in office and that cuts out the out-patient surgery center fee -- which is usually a couple thousand. Also, these doctors know the procedure is not covered by insurance. And know this: even though the med community charges so much on their bills, the truth is that the insurance companies pay, at most, 80%, usually 70% and Medicare, for instance, pays pennies on the dollar. So a doctor who knows you are paying out of pocket and knows it is a fairly low risk operation which will last no longer than an hour, if he can do it on-site at his office, $800 isn't that unheard of.

Is there anyone out there who can help me find a low cost ( $800-$2,000) gynecomastia procedure? I'm 31, and have had gynecomastia since I was 12. I have been quoted a minimum of $5,000 for the operation. i live in iowa, but will travel to save the the extra money. Please email me at [email protected], or text me 515 782 2206. Thanks.

As a specialist in the area of treating gyno, I charge from $3999 and up for surgery. It usually involves laser lipo to melt/dissolve the excess fatty tissue and some men also require glandular tissue to be taken out by hand to reduce the gland size to a normal proportion. I use local anesthetic (which eliminates the high cost of general anesthesia) and surgery is done in our AAAHC accredited surgery center (which eliminates the cost to use a hospital). I have never heard of a colleague charging only $800 for surgery. A surgeon's time alone is usually more costly than that by itself. I would honestly be wary of "cheap" surgery that falls far below the standard cost of other surgeons in your area. See at least 5 surgeons, check their board certifications and education, look at their before/after pictures, speak to a few patients (if you can) before deciding on someone.

I have seen many patients who chose a surgeon for surgery #1 due to cost being the most important factor for them. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work out very well for those patients. Sadly, I do far too many revision surgeries to fix the damage that the first surgeon did to allow me to advise anyone to choose the cheapest doctor they can find. Keep in mind that if you have good credit, a down payment of $800 can be made and the rest financed and paid back over time (sometimes with no interest charges!).

All the best to you and please keep us updated.

Best,
Dr. A
