how much milk does everyone drink?

I drink about 2 ounces, twice a day or so. I'm avoiding dairy while cutting.

BTW, what is it that makes milk bad for cutting by thickening the skin through water retention/ Is it specifically the lactose? If that's all it is, I'll pop for the lactose-free milk for my protein shakes!

I think dairy foods get knocked a lot because they all get lumped together...and because most of them do tend to have plenty of carbs, sodium or saturated fat. As for skim milk, I think it's fine if you don't have a problem digesting lactose....but I am also a proponent of the philosophy: All things in moderation....

I happen to think dairy is just an easy group to eliminate in terms of reducing total daily calories when I go into a cutting phase....it's not that the carbs, or sodium, or sat. fat, etc., in dairy are somehow more evil than when they occur in other foods...

smokinghawk...the marketing of lactose-free milk is deceiving. The milk is not lactose free, as the milk sugar (lactose) is not removed but simply pre-digested by the addition of the enzyme lactase.

I am cutting right now and keep my milk consumption to first thing in the morning using only 16 oz of fat free milk with my am protein drink.

I drink lots of milk with my Choco Donut cereal during refeeds!!!

Other than then, I stick to cottage cheese in the evening and stick to more fibrous complex carbs. Cottage cheese is great for cutting. Also, Kraft Fat Free shredded cheese is great for omelets and basically pure casein. Just eliminate the dairy a few days before you want to look your best.

if bulking, I'll drink all the skim milk I want...

if cutting, I stick to 8oz of skim in the am only b/c I don't want the sugar throughout the day..

ive been thinking and why is it so bad to have milk when cutting, why does everyone avoid it, i konw its carbs are made of up simple sugars in galactose and lactose, thought milk is still one of the lowest foods on the glycemic index, even lower than oatmeal. so what is so bad about it? if it is low gi, it is going to cause little insulin response, and will be absorbed slowly allowing the use of its glucose for energy and not proteins from muscle? wouldnt this be good? i think skim milk would be a great choice when bulking right before bed, around 4 cups before bed gets u around 32 grams protein 80% which are casein, and some carbs for the night.

When cutting I only have about 1 glass of low fat milk a day. When I'm bulking, i'll drink as much as I feel like drinking. I think a little milk is ok when dieting. Just keep track of the calories, carbs and you should be fine.

Milk is natures weight gainer.

good food for thought.. I've never really thought about milk's GI index. I've just strayed from it b/c of the sugar content. I'd like see some opinions on the question you raised. You make an interesting point.

There's nothing wrong with milk for cutting. It gives you calcium and casein. I just don't like the macronutrient ratios. It "steals" carbs from other more tasty foods. Get it?

i agree whole heartedly. When bulking I drink from .5-1 gallon a day. Helps pack on mass quick. Usually gain about 25lbs in a couple months. Thats with the "squats and milk" program or whatever.
