How much is a gallon of gas around your way?

how expensive does gasoline need to become before you folks, living in America, will begin to change your behaviour ?

E.g. give up the SUV/Truck, car pool, take public transport, buy a hybred car, move closer to work, move the job closer to home, etc?
probably pretty high.

When the roads in Europe are the quality of the roads in the US...they will think about it.

When countries in Europe make the same money (all around) that they do in the US...they will think about it. I just came from Poland not long ago and the average salary was about $300 per month yet gas prices were still around $5 a gallon.

When public transportation is actually AVAILABLE in the US...it might be used more.

When hybrid cars are actually WORTH the difference in price...they might.

When moving closer to work is actually CHEAPER than staying where you are and driving...they might.

Just a thought...coming from an American who now lives in Europe and has seen both sides.

I laugh every time one of these threads pops up. Keep driving your enormous SUV's and gas guzzling vehicles and electing dimwit President's that don't know what the words environment or conservation mean.

P.S. - About $3.50 a gallon here.

thanks for the post Bfold. I havent seen one link where it's more energetically expensive to drive gas powered cars vs the production energy costs of making electric cells. I'm not saying they dont exist, i was just wanting to read about it.

My father (owner of 2 Caddy's) and mother (owner of a Camaro) sent me an article from the paper in the US the other day where they were comparing the price of the electric cars to the difference in the $$ you would save on gas. When looking at repairs, extra money just to HAVE an electric car, etc...it wasn't worth it. It was actually cheaper (for now anyway) to drive the gas/petrol powered vehicle.

It's more..... there was another thread on this topic a few weeks ago and us folks living in Europe did some calculations.

came to between 6 and 7 dollars per gallon..... but you will be buying Liters (about a quart) at 1.25 eu each.

Yep, I've looked into it as well. It is much cheaper (in the long run) to just drive a fuel effecient gasoline car than any of the new hybrids. I doubt that will change anytime soon either.

$2.18 - $2.20 a Gallon for Regular...

I filled up from almost empty and looked at the total of $36 and about shit myself
the other day.. And I'm driving a V6.. Remember the days of $20 fill ups ?

I really feel for those people that must run Premium..
