How much do you squat for reps?

I am motivated to post this bc my legs are fucking killing me today. My usual leg days consist of anywhere between 6-10 sets of squats. I use weights varying between 222-405 for reps. Surely there have to be more than 10 people on here who give a shit about there legs. :D wassup?

i have done 315 for 7 365 for 1.. but i hurt my hip 3 weeks ago, one more week and i can squat again YAY, i will work back up fpr 365.. then the big 405.. i hope for it in about 3-4 months

Nice Oak. Keep working it.

Also

Everyone that views this thread must reply. I don't give a shit if you squat the bar for reps. You have to start somewhere. Lemme see it. c'mon now.

Nice, your a strong teen for sure! If you have a second, post your workout over on Lord Suston's thread about progress. In a month, we all can share in eachothers progress. we WILL all make progress!!!!

Keep it up. How do you like box squats?

I do 2 squat variations each leg day, today I will be doing box and wide stance squats. 10 sets for 2-3 reps, usually the wide stances warm me up at about 225. Then Ill throw on 50lbs more or so and kill them with the box squats.

Well I used to squat alot like a year ago, but i was also into martial arts and running alot and everything, and damaged my knees so i was out of squatting for 6 months, but now im finally starting up again :). Right now im doing like 5x5 with 250 or so, Its only been a month and im getting like 25 lbs more each week so, its hard to tell right now what im really doing :) I'll have to get back to ya in like 2 months or so!

Sorry to hear about that setback. Squats are the most beneficial exercise for overall leg development. Keep that going brother. Legs like trunks!!! :D

oly squat 315 x 8, I know I have been ignoring my core a lot lately:( . But I can still do front squats with 205 for 8. I got 225 for 20 last week, shit did that suck...

Haven't done reps in a loooong time.

B True

In terms of reps. . . .

32 reps with 225lbs, almost had cardiac arrest.

10 reps with 355lbs, felt heavy

3 reps with 420lbs, felt like a truck on my back!!!

I never max out, and if my lower back is fatigued I will cut down on the weights I use!! For now, I am sticking with DC.

Agh the lovely ole squats, my fav... Still need to get a little heavier yet, but my damn knees just won't let me go too heavy yet. Let see...

45(bar) for 25 - ass to the floor (warm-up)
135 for 20 - ass to the floor (warm-up)
255 for 12 - 90 degree
285 for 10 - 90 degree
315 for 8 - 90 degree
345 for 6 - 90 degree

Probably hit 365+ in a couple of weeks. I trained legs on Tuesday and my legs still love me today...

You guys are STRONG on reps for sure...seriously. This is really impressive to me.

B True

I can literally squat until I can black out. If it stimulates growth. . . . then so be it. This is what I like about DC. Tom Platz was capable of squatting with 225lbs for 10 minutes straight.

Last football testing going down to 90 degrees...

Hit 405 for 8.

Getting there. Iam only 20...so...it's going to get better.

How often do you do this Louden? I am definitely going to try it next week. Just have to make sure I have a bucket close to me. :D

Every now and then, the heavy weights seem a bit too much to handle on certain days. However, I figure I will not myself get off the hook that easy, so I incorporate ways of torchering myself to get a good workout. This can be accomplished by squatting for several reps.

Legs are really thick muscles and are capable of handling extreme stress. Refer to Tom Platz and his methods of training during the 1980's.

If you try something like this, be sure to have a trash can or a bucket close.

With the DC method, I shoot for 4-8 difficult, then 20. I will not deal with really high reps for a while.

To answer your question. . .you can perform this as often as you like.

Monday I did squats (olympic squats, ass to ankles, no belt or knee wraps)

On squats and GMs I like to concentrate on the 70-85% of 1 RM range. For me, doing deep squats, thats about 125 to 150 lbs.

3x115
3x125
2 sets of 3x135
2 sets of 3x145
3x150

Felt good so I went 1x160 easily and then tied my previous PR with 1x175.

Loudin,

I know all about Mr. Tom Platz and his insane legs. I do not have the sauce that he had but I get the idea. Good shit man. I will have that bucket close and I definitely wrote that in my previous post. No doubt about it, I am doing it next week and I'll post it. Thanx!!!

Seabass,

your an animal. So young and so much growth!

Tarheel,

Congrats on the PR man! I know you tied it but next time you'll break it!

All ass to the floor with no belt, I've done:
445lbs x 5 reps
405 x 8 reps
315 x 20 reps

when i was 14, i could do about 235 for 8 or so. i cant remember very well. now i'm at a pathetic 205 for 5 sets of 5. cutting time, so those weights will drop even more

there's a kid at my school, 17 years old, squats in the mid-700's in competition. i wish i could do that. lol

wow 700. I can't imagine that but my day may come. Great numbers for you. Definitely a strong young man.

235 @ 14!

yeah, it wasn't too great, my form sucked. no hams or glutes involved. all quads  that was over a year ago though, and i'm down a few pounds. it's pretty depressing

what are the rest of you all at? i'm really impressed by a lot of people's squat numbers

Back in the day of quarter squats I could handle 415 - and looking back I sure wish someone would have told me that I was NOT going down at all.

Last Friday did 305 for the needsize 5X5, tomorrow I'll be going for the 315 5X5
I've taken a very serious approach to squats this year, I've worked very hard on my form to the extent of practising at home with no weights until I found my groove.

To all the dudes hitting 405 for reps - I'll be beside you by 2004.

Good Thread Polish.

Nice work Strider. I smell 450 soon for you. :)

Deadz, I did the same thing back in the day. I was taught by a trainer my freshman year to do 1/2 squats. It slowed my development. Now that I go ass to the floor, everything in my body is growing. And yes, you will be alongside us.

Jeremy,
I know I can push myself to go over 405 right now. I know I can do more. I will do more. It's just a matter of time. When my legs stop responding to the 225, 315, 405 shit, I will go up.

Loudin,
Key point. I'm gonna take that one to the illigitamite partner as well.

Did you have to pull out the bucket?

Never actually tossed my cookies but have come close. About 3 weeks ago I pushed it so far I ended up just laying on the floor for 10 minutes before I could get back up and finish.

My old training partner has an 800lb squat in competition

LOL.. My squat is terrible compared to most.... No big deal tho.. I'll catch up :p
I've only been squatting since August or July... and I have some knee issues so if I get any wierd things happening with my knees, I usually back off the weight by 25 lbs and up it 5 lbs each week until they feel better...
235x5x5 is cake right now... I'm guessing my 1 rep max is in the range of 280???
I'm aiming for 315x5 in less than 6 months..
Got my fingers crossed

Thanks, the numbers are okay but there are just a means to an end, huge legs...

Feel free to post up some of yours Big Nate. I am sure alot of people are anxious. :)

Heavywear,
You and Loudin have inspired me to go for high reps next week. Whew! Congrats on the personal bests!

Needsize,
Your an ox. Laying down reminds me of Arnod dong squats and his partner falling out after a set of 11 reps at what appeared to be 315. 800lb's! :freak: What a fucking monster. I howver, have tossed cookies many times while doing squats.

#'s are put here IMO so we can push eachother to reach the outer limits of our genetic potential. For support. Dr. Bones, what is terrible to you may be incredible for another. There is no race and you decide the pace. :)

my personal records are 225 for 36 and 315 for 20. I LOVE high rep squats...as hard as it gets! more mental than physical almost...

You love high reps squats...you are a sick, sick bastard!!!!

I've done the following:

Back Squat: 418/10, 462/5, 485/3, 529/1
Back Pause Squat: 496/1
Front Squat: 363/5, 407/3, 430/1

All performed deep (I'm an olympic lifter) .

How long have you been lifting?

Nice cujo,
Wow! That's some serious #'s there. I too hope to be in there soon! I have to bump up the same ? Cool asked. How long have you been training?

Tarheel,
Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Needsize,
Do you go for the 5X5 method with your legs for best results? You do have some pretty impressive tree stumps.

I've been working out for about 32 years. I didn't make the big gains til the last 7 years. That's when I really started to concentrate on the squats. I use a 3 sets of 5 reps scheme and 5 sets of 3 reps scheme. Squatting twice per week. I can email you the squat routine I use. It is based on Artie Dreschler's squat cycle in his Weightlifting encyclopedia. BTW, I'm 45 and weigh 205#.

whoa please post the routine!!!

or email it to me at [email protected]

Unfortunatly due to my arthritis in left knee as a child the leg is longer and really screws up my geometry for squating and makes balance a real pain in the ass. I still realize the importance of the squat but because of left knee problems (and no training partner) I do squats in a smith :( so my weights dont count.

as I posted last week ...on Sunday I did 425x12 no belt no wraps ...have done as high as 500x6 520x3 fpor reps my best with wraps is 315x34 was wasted for a week .

I've straight bar squatted around 500. I dont like it much though.

I've never tried Box Squats, but I'm very interested.

Safe Squated 700x1, and could have gone higher, but no need to put yourself in that kind of danger in a non-serious competition (which I easily won).

God damn fellas. Good to so many tree stumps round' here. This thread could serve as the pillar for the "Leg's First Foundation". All pencil-legged individuals need not apply!

Nice job fellas.
Question now.....
Who box squats at a gym?

I do, but I must use a low bench. This brings me to parallel position. I am sure to let my hips rest then I will explode towards the top.

i usully just sit long enough to let my hamstings and hips relax then explode to the top

loudin- why, you can use box squats in DC training. Just use it as a leg exercise. I mean it has a rest pause kinda built into it but i think it would be and effective tool at raising both strength and size

I do 7 sets...8-10 reps

Set1 - 125lbs - 10 reps
Set2 - 265lbs - 10 reps
Set3 - 305lbs - 10 reps
Set4 - 395lbs - 10 reps
Set5 - 445lbs - 8 reps
Set6 - 265lbs - 8 reps
Set7 - 125lbs - 8 reps

I love squats...although it's hard to find pants that fit me, now that my quads are freakin' monster-like! If only my chest was that way! hahaha'
