for 5 reps...?

what's considered a good pull for an atheletic / non powerlfiting guy...?

i did 290x5 on Thursday in the conventional stance, double overhand grip, no straps...

they felt real good, like i could have done alot more... i'm going to continue my progression on the 5x5 and should be at about 350x5 at the end, if all goes as planned...

As today was deadlift day I'm glad you asked :-D. Managed 275 for 5, then I like to add a few singles adding 5 each time.

Guess I should specify, double-overhand, conventional stance. Chalk.

I think that a 2xbodyweight deadlift would be decent for most people and a 2.5xbodyweight deadlift would be exceptionally strong.

I would agree. For the average lifter 2x bodyweight isnt bad. I weigh about 230 lbs now and dead around 500 lbs, squat about 540 lbs.

At the end of my senior year I was repping 405 for 3 sets of 8 at 6'5" 225. Now, 3 years later, I am a chubby bastard who just got back into lifting, and I haven't tried my 1rm on deads yet. Based on my workout weight, I would guesstimate my 1rm being 405 now.

I'm waiting on freaky Jim to walk into this thread...

About 5 weeks ago, I pulled 365 for 5 reps at a bodyweight of 208. My 1RM, probably 6-8 weeks ago, was 455.

I want to pull 500 at 190. :)

260lbs x 5... Although I haven't done deads in a while... I've been doing rack pulls because I hurt my back and full ROM deads seem to be what does it...

Hit 265lbs x 4 at a body weight of 190lbs, wouldn't of been able to get a 5th with proper form, so called it a day. Dont get me wrong it ripped the ass out of me, proper form all the way, really happy just got to build upon it now.

I dunno, I never pull reps. Just singles. Even with lighter weight. simply b/c after the first rep, you are not in proper position, unless you stop, and reset yourself. But most people dont. So they are only inviting injury.

Like asdfzxcv said, what is good, is dependant upon your body weight. also, dont try to base your 1RM off of what you can do for X amount of reps.

i'm weighing about 215 at the moment...

and i deweight to the floor every rep, so i think i'm in proper postion on each pull... i could be wrong though...

maybe i'll video my pulls next week to see how i am doing...

I think a good deadlift is relitave to each individual. For some 315 x 5 is a good pull and for others that's just warm up weight.

If you want a comparison I weigh 192-194lbs and last week I got 342.5 x 5. The rest of your lifts are higher then mine in the 5x5 so I assume you will surpass me and meet your goal of 350 x 5 sooner then you think, especially since you just started training the lift.

My journal was here until I screwed up and got myself banned.

i havent done a set of 5 in quite awhile so im not real sure where i'd stand at this moment. about 3 months ago, at a bw of 190, i pulled 425 for 1rm and 365 for 5, failed on #6. im a lanky bastard at 6'1" , but i agree with others when they say some taller people are able to pull well...

I just did deadlifts for the second time Wed. I did 255 for 5 reps on my final set. I'm 5'8" , 180lbs, 29 years old. I guess that's not half bad for a beginner.

not that it's worth the steam off your piss, but my opinion is the following would be 'good'

455- 495 for a couple of reps if you're a natural

585 for a few reps at least if you're Juiced

135 for one if you're a regular on the C&C forum

why would you do 13 reps...?

I get much better strength and size gains when I ramp the weight this way.

I started in March with 415x15 and added 10 pounds each workout, I deadlift once a week. Next workout (Wed.) I'll only add 5 pounds and just keep going that way until I can only get triples. I also only do one work set and always stay a rep or 2 from failure. In January my 10RM was 425 and I pulled 500x1 in Febr., a PR.

I figure my 10RM this month will be 455 so I should hit 535x1 next month.

5'6" 142lb.
today got 225*10
have done 245*8, felt like crap today too, but was still strong
i've never even tried to do 5RM or less...

315X5 last monday, we'll see what happens today.

I know I can go heavier, but I feel as if i'm not strong enough in the core for it. I haven't been doing deads the whole time I lift, some time doing them, some time not, and right now I feel a little unstable going higher. We'll see what happens today. Conventional stance double overhand grip. no straps or chalk

Whiskey

I pulled a solid 2 reps of 405lbs a few months back right when I started cutting down... That was a PR too, can't wait to start eating and pulling big weight again.

I was prolly right at 200lbs then (6'0" still).
