I'm getting a Fleur de lis on the inside of one bicep and a cross on the inside on the other.

Around 15% is pretty good so $45 in your case. I probably tip a bit heavier but my artist is like family so I get a discount which I make up for with extra tipping.

I'm looking to get more done in a couple of weeks. :)

Tipping for something that costs 100$ an hour doesn't make any sense to me, what the fuck is wrong with you people, do you tip your mechanic??

do you people just tip everybody? I'm a very generous tipper but I only really tip like the service community.. waitresses and servers.. bar tenders.. etc..

i tip 20% if they do a good job, and my guy usually does.

a mechanic is fixing your car.

tattoo artists are permanently marking your skin - you should form a good relationship with him/her

i tipped $40 on my tat and it ran me $300 to begin with

that's a valid point, but If you go to the best of the best as far as tattoo artists go they are already usually charging an arm and a leg because of thier quality, so I don't understand the point of tipping them extra? I mean if it's a common thing then I can understand it, but if it isn't why make it one?

It's basically understood that you should tip for a tattoo. You also have to remember that the artist isn't pocketing that $100 per hour. They have to pay for rent on the space they use, electricity, ink, needles, tattoo guns, rubber gloves, health certifications, cleaning supplies, etc... The tip is the only guaranteed wage the artist is going to get especially if they have a slow week.

And the price isn't that bad when you put it into perspective. A tattoo is a piece of art that should last for years and years. So if something costs you $500 and lasts for 20 years it's really not very expensive when you consider most cars that cost $30,000 won't be around that long. Also good art is expensive no matter what the medium is in. Try and buy a good piece of original art sometime and see what a popular artist will charge for a 2' x 3' painting.

i know several tattoo artists. they are always flattered and please by a tip, no matter what the amount. after they pay for their supplies and kick back anywhere of 25% to 75% of what you pay for their work to the shop owner, they are not making THAT much money off you. a tip, no matter what the amount, is money in THEIR pocket.

and they WILL remember you the next time you get work done.

I agree, never heard of tipping tat artist... But what the fuck do I know I have zero tats.

after the work is over, after the visa slip is signed (or the cash register is totaled), ANY cash u put in the artist's hand will be much appreciated and remembered.

It depends how much they cost. If I get one that costs 400.00 I will usually give them 425.00
