how much core work is too much?

sometimes when im bored i hit the gym for some cardio and core work.

i also hit the weights 4-5 times a week but thats another story.

so, it could be 2-4 times a week, 40-50 mins cardio, then 2-3 core exersices, 2-3 sets each.

can the core be overtrained?
am i overtraining it?

i just like to be in the gym much, LOVE IT!
so what do u think?

which core exercises are you doing? This might give people a better idea because you can be doing little nothing exercises, or exercises that really work you hard.

From my experience it is hard to over-train the core by doing high rep anything including leg raises. But, if you are doing heavy deads, squats, oly lifts, in addition to overhead squats and weighted ab roll-outs/crunches, and you cry like a little girl the next day when you can't get out of bed because your abs/sides/back hurt, then you might be over training the core. The good news is, you will get used to it.

well.
the routine is normally 2 sets of the plank, and 2 sets of the side plank, thats all.

also doing abs 2 times a week for 5-6 sets, on other days that is.

i think you'll be okay. I also think that doing abs twice a week for 5-6 sets may be a bit unnecessary, but if you enjoy it the go ahead it won't hurt. Abs are BF%, genetics, and overall muscle mass. They should be trained like any other muscle you have, and can be overtrained. However, i think you're good with this. Just don't overdo it because again, your BF% is how much of your abs you're going to see regardless of your exercises.

yeah, genetics and bf plays the role if i want to see the abs, i know.

basicly im not doing just beacause i want great abs.
since i started bb ive eaten big meals and my waist have gotten i bit wide, not caring about insulinspikes and other factors.

after every meal ive looked pregnant almost.

so now, when im cutting, eating smaller meals and just eat every 3 hours im also trying to tight up my waist.

doing vaccum exersices after every leg/chest and back workout.
also abs 2 times a week and core training.

why do u think doing abs 2 times a week is unnecasarry?

overall do u get where i wanna go whit this, and do u think its a good plan?

ive basicly learned more about food and will try another approach to eating this offseason.
eating smaller meals and more often, so ill just eat small amounts, so my wais will get use to not stretch as much.

The abdominal muscles are the fastest to atrophy, so it isn't a bad thing to train them quite often, especially core training. However, I agree with aekdb. You should be weary of overtraining whenever you do exercises that place a heavy tax on the abdominals.

I don't know the validity of this, but I read somewhere that abs are usually slow-twitching muscle fibers that are very difficult to fully exhaust despite the fatigue factor in your mind.

i don't think doing abs 2 times a week is bad at all. Hell, go 3 times if u want to. When I saw 5-6 sets, i mistook them for exercises (my bad). You should be fine. Just make sure that you're meeting your goals/progressing and make changes based on the results you see.

You could also try HIIT on your off days. It will help your cut a lot

if you are squatting and deadlifting every week, 2 solid core workouts a week is sufficient imo.
