how much cardio does it take to burn muscle on gear?

PolfaJelfa said:
I doubt this has very much to do with cardio..... ( although it does some)

My question which i am realy curious for my own future diet modifications is. How much bellow the 12x Body Weight( although obviously this is not acurate to a "T" ) would one have to cut callories in order to lose muscle.

Another question for Radar or Silverbackn.

For example if i have about 6 month time. And i want to slowly and gradually loose about 25-40 lbs of fat. How many callories would be best to dip bellow my maintenance (12x BW) in order to loose PRACTICALY ZERO MUSCLE.

Thank you guys!

PS: Im thinking no less than 9X or 10X
How many callories is 1 lb of fat again?
The good thing about having that much time is that you can make changes that are pretty much imperceptible to your diet and you can lose fat very slowly which will greatly help with muscle retention. You could probably drop cals by as little as 250 a day and see results. They won't be dramatic, but that is what you want. Obviously as you get closer to the end and as you get more sliced you will have to be more restrictive, I am a big fan of carb cycling myself.

cardio is NOT the answer...this game is 80% diet bro.......re-evaluate your caloric intake and your bmr rate........

If you are doing cardio to lose fat then just make sure your heart rate stays in the correct zone for fat burning. I think it's like 60 to 70% of your maximum heart rate that is best for fat burning. Max heart rate is calculated by subtracting your age from 220 (226 if your a woman). So if youre 25, your max heart rate should be 195bpm.

So if you keep your heart rate between 117bpm and 137bpm you should be burning pretty much all fat.

Thats what I do anyway and it works. It can be hard to stop yourself going flat out as I always feel like I'm cheating by taking it easy as 60% - 70% of your max heart rate isn't working very hard.

Diet and training need to be in check however if you want to reap the benefits of cardio.

Exactly. I am currently on an EQ/Anavar cycle
and have shed 9lbs of fat while gaining 8lbs of
lean muscle. (Entering my 12th week)

My overall weight has decreased by 1lb however the
changes to my body compisiton are simply incredible.

One note...I have not done 1 MINUTE of cardio this
entire time.

The key to my results is diet...diet...diet.

I realize this and also believe diet is key, but for me adding cardio also makes me feel like I am getting leaner even faster and can see the results even faster. Plus with my slow ass metabolism I dont think its hurting me. I have worked my ass off bro. At age 17 I was 285lbs with (I'm estimating) somewhere in the 20s bodyfat %. Now going on 21 I am 219lbs at around 11% give or take a little and twice as strong. I know about diet thats how I got here I just want to know the facts on cardio and muscle burning. Also Does being an endomorph have anything to do with how much muscle I will burn also?

Cardio will help you shed fat quicker HOWEVER you will also
be sacrificing muscle.

The only thing I would recommend would be adding 1-2 HIIT
training sessions per week. This will allow you to lose the
maximum amount of fat without sacrificing lean muscle.

Jumping on the treadmill or stairmaster for an hour per day
is not answer here.

After 45mins - 1hr of cardio at optimal fat burning heart rate, your body will start to switch over to burning more carbs, and then later start to eat away at your protein. The body always uses a little of each for energy, but you will be burning mostly fat the 1st 45-60min, provided your heart rate stays in the right zone. Because you will start to burn more carbs than fat after around the 1hr mark, I dont see the point of doing cardio for more than 1hr at a time.

Unless of course you just want to burn extra calories. But when I do cardio I dont want to burn extra cals, I want to burn only fat.

I'm on EQ/Var right now and loving it, lifts are all up and looking better everyday. Ive been hitting cardio hard everyday (at least an hour of moderate pace when i wake up). I can see my lowest abs have emerged more in only a week. I know the more I run the more fat I will loose but how much cardio does it take to burn muscle on gear? My main goal for this cycle is to loose most of the bodyfat I have left and perhaps gain a few pounds of muscle at the most, but I never want to loose my precious muscle. I know it depends on food intake too as I am on a cutting diet and this worries me. I don't feel like I am loosing muscle but should I take the cardio back a notch, or increase calories, its fucking with my head. I physically look better, I just dont want to regress. Thanks for hearing me out guys.

Do cardio in the mornings and keep your cutting diet intact. As long as you limit cardio to once a day and your diet is full of enough complex carbs and proteins you will not burn muscle. Even if you do burn a bit of muscle it won't be enough for you to notice, you might feel a loss in strength though.

Something got to give, bro.......you can't have everything. If you want to get supercut you will lose some of your strength and/or muscle. There's a balance you need to find that you can be satisfied with.

Its truly a balance with respect to the three. If your nutrition is not correct, your body will more easily go after the lean mass and you may lose muscle along with the bodyfat. If you are curious - get your BF checked (properly with calipers) right away. Then compare again in a couple weeks to see if any muscle has been lost or how much. It would have been optimal to see what your ratio of BF to lean mass was at the start of the cutting diet.

I thought an hour of cardio each a.m. was a lot, but I don't know where you're at with your percentages. Let me know if you need a review your diet. If so - please let us know your stats (BF, LM, weight), and what you are eating exactly. Gear will help you hold onto the LM, but at some point with too much cardio and not enough proper food - the mass is gonna go. Take care.
