how much bling bling?

on your competition suits? I think the glitter material is enough, but the gal Im training with says you still need stones. SHe recommends the velvet w/rhinestones @ $350 :worried:

any thoughts?

It gets expensive. I don't know if it makes much of a difference with the judges or not. I'd just go with what you can afford. In my case, I got the suits made plain for cheap and put the stones on myself. The stones, if you get the good ones, are still expensive. But that's what makes the suits so expensive. They're really easy to put on. Then you can re-use the suits and add on more stones to give it a different look. I also got the really glittery fabric, and just did an outline with the stones. I thought it looked pretty good. The fabric really sparkled on stage.

I would say it depends on what level you are in if you a novice no way in hell you should be dropping that much bling just for a suit. I need 3 required suits for my comp for all 3 together my budget is between 400-600 my chica assured me i could get a pretty sweet looking suits for that budget.

Depending on the category for figure, you need stones, because under those lights they shine like crazy. So if your standing next to a girl that's got lots of stones, and her suit is popping on her, and have none she'll be taking the attention off of you.

Yes they are supposed to be looking at your physique, but there's more to it that that, as we all know. You need to be trying to get as much as the judges attention as you can.

At my last show, I was in the audience watching my friend compete, and when she stepped on stage, your couldn't help but look at her, her suit was shiny like crazy, and you would look at the other girls, but your attention would go back to her.

Hmmm, I think I'll be adding more stones to my suits then!

Yep def the bling. I'd also venture that if you have great contrast between the color of your suit & the stones you will also be very eye catching. It seems sort of silly that competition comes down to how much "costume jewelry" you have hanging on your little bikini, but esp figure is ALL ABOUT THE PRESENTATION.

You can also add in jewelry too but I guess there you need to keep in mind the line between aesthetically pleasing & gaudy. Do you look like you are stepping on stage to receive an award at black tie affair or like you are climbing up on stage to start your pole dance.

what the heck are stones even allowed? This is going to reach critical mass at some point soon.

There's going to be a reduction in entries at the grassroots level since girls will start to consistently place relatively poorly because they were priced out of the fricking suits.

Stones, Makeup, Hair, Tan, It all plays in.

One comp I was in the Girl tht placed first said she paid in excess of 900 for her one piece. It was stunning no doubt but way overboard.

I've also seen a few suits that just had way to much stones on them. I dropped a load of money on my suits, not overly stonned nice material and perfect fit to end up finding out that the color of the suit washes me out... LOL

And unfortunately that reality was a conscious decision by the sanctioning bodies. Glamming the holy heck out of figure puts butts in the seats, which keeps comps (and the sanctioning bodies) in business.

But I'll betcha that if things dont change, in five years $900 for a suit wont seem so crazy, you know? How many amateur competitors paid $400 for a suit in 2000? How many pay that much for it now?

I just see the trend as ultimately discouraging new competitors.

Oh I agree... The only critique I recieved on the July comp was to change suit colors!!!!! Wow... everything else was there but wrong suit color.

That must suck to know that you did everything right, all the hard work on your physique came together at the exact right time, but your suit was the wrong color. Wow, and I thought it was a competition based on physique.

Everything about this industry is money based. Look what it costs to compete. Look what it costs for tickets to a show. It is nothing but a money generating industry. And that's just the way its goign to be.

well said. I didnt know the importance on the "right" suit either so training w/an IFBB pro really helps...

do you remember how Monaca Brant got slammed for her one-piece suit??? Everyone hated it & the other pros said she lost to Jenny because of that suit, not physique. Weird industry...

I didn't hear about that - which suit was it?? Which comp??

I remember someone (maybe Monica) saying in an interview she got slammed for the wrong shoes once.....

When you walk on that stage you are being judged on everything.

"Monica, as I mentioned earlier, has flawless symmetry, however, her suit didn't reflect that and covered her "V" taper and curves, hiding the true beauty of her physique...on this particular suit, it seemed the large amount of rhinestones made her suit look even bigger!"
