As for the body... I am noticing cardio makes me feel good after. I never really did a lot of it before.
As you mentioned... I don't seem to get that euphoric feeling I used to after working out. I used to be on top of the world. Now its just another part of the day!!!

Working out and cardio makes a huge difference in my life. If I stop working out, I actually start feeling worse.

your plan you just mentioned would work but at the same time giving yourself extra rest might make you feel a lot better, might make you workouts in the gym more intense and might lead to more muscle growth..
now i cant say enough about the benefits of cardio and all that but at the same time i know what its like to feel run down and to have excess cardio beat you up.. it might not be happening to you but i would say try it for 2 weeks .. thats 6 mixed cardio sessions so maybe if im 100% wrong you would gain 1/2 a lb of fat.. but if im right you will feel better and have a better idea on how much cardio you should be doing..
also doing stuff first thing in the am puts way more of a stress on your body try to eat before hand
