How much Allowance did you get?

$2 a week. Take out trash, clean my room, yardwork, etc.......

Late 1960's and early 1970's. I finally worked my way up $5 by the mid 1970's, then I got a job.

ZERO. Nadda, zip, not a dime.

I got a job the day I turned 16, and have been paying for everything ever since ... actually.. I don't have to pay rent.. but thats the only thing I don't pay for.. I even have to buy my own damn food...

famous words of my father "CLEAN THE GARAGE, TAKE OUT THE TRASH, MOW THE GRASS, CLEAN THE HOUSE" i'm with the rest of you, i never got paid for it...all my friends would complain because they only got $15-$30 bucks a week LOL. and they never did anything.

No allowance. Parents would give me money for whatever I needed up until I was in high school. (seeing a movie or going to the arcade) But, about my sophomore year, they might give me $5 a week for gas or something, whatever I spent was up to me to earn, steal or borrow.

father was very old fashioned european, so no allowance for me

but he did hook me up with a job in the hospital while he was the head of psychiatry, so in my early teens i was getting $18 / hour for a easy porter job while my freinds were lucky to make $6 doing hard labour.

You bastard! :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

Did you usual chores around the house, but did not really get an allowance. If I needed something parents would give me a little money here and there. Started working when I was 15 and from then own I payed for things myself.

no money here. i do most of the work; babysitting, helping with odd jobs around the place, cleaning, etc. my brother and sister get money for whatever they need though

used to get $5 ...Now i've left school and have no job, maybe i should get an 'allowance' from the government,

FUCK THAT.

I didn't get allowance either. I did have to do house and yard work though...if it wasn't done "right" I'd be in some serious shit too. I started babysitting when I was about 13, worked at my dad's resterant when I was 15, worked on Wall St. when I was 17. Now I just hold out my hand and tell hubby I need some cash. I like being an adult! LOL

My allowance....In the words of my farher, " A roof over your head, and food on the table. " Started work when I was 15, bought my first car when I was 16....

I was one of the lucky ones i guess.. i got a whopping $5 a week, my main duties included lawn work, cleaining the cars inside and out on saturday mornings (sunday afternoons if we had events to go to), and vacuuming the house. I didn't get paid for the normal stuff like taking out the garbage and such. I also didn't get paid if I had school activities to do and couldn't get my chores in for the week.

No allowance.

AND - no permitted to work.
(can you say control freaks?)

Which didn't really matter because I wasn't allowed to go anywhere anyway so what would I need money for?

SIDE NOTE:
Probably not a good parental tactic b/c it just helped me lie, cut class and teach ice skating until I had enough cash to leave.

:insane:

5 bucks a week doing chores and odd jobs, that much barely covered my comic book habit...and that was preticated on making straight honor roll, which did butI got U's in conduct b/c I talked all the time......lost the 5 bucks when I got a note sent home for being a smart ass. Parents asked what happened....during math class I was trying to help a friend who wasn't getting it(which is ironic b/c 99.9% of the time I was just talking). The teacher asked why I was talking, I told her that I was just trying to help Ted.....

*5 second pause*

She threw the chalk at me and said "If you think you can teach the class please come up here and do so."

I proceded to do just that....for the remainder of class, which was about 30 minutes

SHe preceded to send the note.

Ted went on to major in math at UGA and is an middle school math teacher

late 80's- early 90's I got $20 a week for taking out trash, and mowing lawn once a week.

Sheeit. When I was a youngun, I had to split a rick of firewood every week, slop the hogs, milk the cows, and haul the drinkin water- the well was a half mile away and the bucket leaked. If I did all that, I got two full extra spoonfulls of sausage gravy on my Saturday morning biscuits.

I had to walk to school, too- 5 miles each way...barefoot...in the snow...and it was uphill both ways.

Made me the man I am today.
