How much ALA is too much for one day?

PinkPanther

I was just wondering if there was such a thing as "too much" ALA to be taken in one day. I have 500mg caps of ALA and I usually take one a day with my lunch because I usually have rice and an apple with this meal. However, tonight I am going to be going out to eat at an Italian restarant and I know I will be eating a lot of carbs. Would it be too much to take 2 pills at once?

Thanks a lot!!
;)

Ugh...I hate that smell! The first time I took one, I was like what the f' is going on here?!?! Yeah, sometimes I wonder, too if I would even notice a difference when not taking it...I just have so many of them that not taking them would make me feel like I've wasted money...

Thanks for your feedback :)

Probably not, as long as you don't go hypo. I've used 1000 mg of ala at once, although I can't say that I have been greatly impressed by the compound in general, and have discontinued my use of it, with no apparent change other than my urine doesn't smell as strong now.

Count yourself lucky... it has another problem in men. My ex-girlfriend didn't care for the taste, so that's why I original stopped using it.

Eeeww...never heard of that one before...of course, don't know where I would hear it from. At least you were a nice enough boyfriend to stop taking it :) Do you take anything with your carbs now?

No, I only eat carbs after being in ketosis, so muscle and liver cells are more than happy to absorb virtually all of it, as well as more than they would normally hold, via the supercomensation effect of carb loading after depleting.

i use upto 1g of ALA when im gonna go out and to a restuarant or whatever, in a day i use between 1g to 1500mg
once i sweated and smelt of ala lol

Normally I'll take 300mg ALA or 100mg Glucorell for every 30-40g carbs

In terms of ALA usage. I've seen people go over 2g, especially if you're supplementing it for UCP-1

I don't know what dosage is the max in terms of declining effects, sorry

Hey Sawastea,

Just noticed that you are from NYC...I am going there in two weeks - any recs on places to go or see??

There is soo much to see. I'd recommend a tour of the Statue of liberty, Ground Zero and those NYC bus tours. Unfortunately there is sooooo much to do and see, it'll be hard to get around. You definitely would like to go to Central Park :D

What about r-ala?! Have you tried it?! I'm looking to purchase some...any feedback? You seem to be knowledgeable in these matters..

juve, you might want to look into Glucorell R+

AnaFit sells it...Some great artricles about it. One of which is a sticky

Don't forget about ALA being an awesome antioxidant. I follow a CKD and on non carb days I still take in about 300mg.

juve, I have not tried r-ala, but there is a reasonable amount of research out there that suggest it definately increases insulin sensitivity, and this effect is more pronounced that a racemix ala (standard ala). It may be worth trying if you have the extra $$$ to spare. Currently my budget is tight, because I'm in school full time now. My grocery bill alone is outragous sometimes, and I buy bulk and am selective in what I buy and where I buy it to keep cost down. As a result I tend to rely heavily on drugs, rather than suppliments, and use the most cost-effective one's for achieving my goals.

Thanks for replies Fat_ and BBF...yea i read all those studies...but being a full time college student i also have a tight budget, so i just wanted some first-hand opinions...and since i don't use 'other drugs' i'm leaning towards a conclusion that r-ala will be a worthy investment for me and my goals.

thank you
