How much $ a Year do you need to make.

How much money a year do you think is good to live a good life off of.....

$50,000

$100,000

$150,000

and so on, be real on this post........

I think at least $150,000 a year If you have a Fam. to take care of.

Depends upon priorities. If you have a family, wife, 2 kids etc., you can survive on about 40K, maybe even less. Of course that means one car, rent an appartment and live frugally.

We are DINKS and don't live within our means so, our excess of income is gone and we do as we please.

Looking at retirement in the future, I think I will require about 50K to maintain one home and current life style.

Bud Fox: How much is enough?
Gordon Gekko: It's not a question of enough, pal. It's a zero sum game, somebody wins, somebody loses. Money itself isn't lost or made, it's simply transferred from one perception to another.

Well I NEED next to nothing.

I WANT everything. But I´ll be happy with less.

Sore losers could never be winners in the first place

at least $150,000 each partner

just like with any income thread.....IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE

I completely support ambition, even materialism and some elitism.

but what doesn´t a 100k + 100k family not have that they need in your mind?

fixed

you can have a great life on your own with 50k...but you have to keep working, or it ends. theres the catch...how much do you want to retire on?

What are the stats? whats median? 25-30k?

minimum wage working full time is about 25k right

are you really saying you´d be miserable on anything less than SIX times that?

that´s pretty pathetic. and I´m a prep kid.
I live off about 600 euro´s a month now. that´s about 9000 dollars a year.
That´s including rent. I have more, but save it. my family is upper middle class. I feel no need to pimp around with other peoples money. My granddad is 95 and has big savings and likes me a bit much. I put everything he gives me on a high interest savings account.

What do you guys need? seriously?

a house for each child and the best education and medical care

i am not matericalistic in fact i could survive on less than $30,000 a year but to live in comfort and to know that your child will be provided for $150,000 is good

Very true aap......

Where I live now, with dual income (still getting severance) - we are VERY comfortable on about $60-70k with savings & a certain amount disposable...

What´s wrong with giving them a studio or small apartment? Or god forbid, even a mortgage, that they pay for themselves?

Of course I want to make as much as possible and provide all I can for my kids. they´ll do fine without a million dollars in trust funding each. Them having my genes and all.

Full time minimum wage in the US is closer to 11k a year. You also have to consider that in the US our healthcare and education costs more privately. Plus in the US in many parts you need a car to get to work as public transport isn't that great. 600 euros is feasable if you don't have student loans, private healthcare or a private auto.

It depends on where you live at the end of the day and if you have a family. If I never have to support anyone but myself, live in the country and I invest wisely then getting by on 1100/month shouldn't be hard, excluding investment income. That is a little more than I currently spend.

11k is nothing

Cost of living here is fairly low... that being said, I'm ok with my income but I could handle about 85k a year :)

It depends. For me..I need very little. However, because of the business I run, I often need a lot to cover flying expenses, dinner expenses, and general ass-kissing expenses.

The more you make, the more you spend, the more you need, the more you want, the more you work. $100K doesn't go too far. I don't see how people with kids can make less than that.

I can afford to keep my house and my lifestyle in general just on what I make now. Of course more money is always nice but I love that I can have the kind of life I have now just on my own funds without anyone else. :)

Depends on location

Location, Location, Location ;)

One of my employee is a single mom with 2 kids, rent and a car and makes 35K/year. As far as I know, she seems to do just fine. Again, it depends on where you live.

I have to stay up around 150k ...just to keep up with the bills and the business going..........It sucks....lot's of pressure to earn everyday...a weeks vaction about every third year....

Wonder if she gets any amount of child support. Any little bit helps. When I was a single parent, trying to get by on 48,000 (2 jobs) it was rough. I got no child support though. Interestingly enough, now that Im married and living very comfortably on a dual income, I have started getting my regular child support payments $200/week which would have come in very handy when I was working 2 jobs and scrounging for money.

No child support from her former husband. He's on welfare and lives with his mom so you cant legally make him pay. She gets around 100$/month from the government. That's it. And she must do ok because she never asked me to do overtime (she could and I would let her do some for sure).

I know that in some cities like NYC, she'd be living in a dump and eating feces sandwich.

Median household income in the USA: $43200.

50% of US households earn less than that. Something to keep in mind.

I live in South Louisiana

The cost of living is cheaper than the east coast / west coast I'm sure.

I'm living comfortably as a single guy @ 50k.

I like to increase that to 100k and if things set in motion now go as planned should be there in 2 years.

I could live how I wanted on that. I think I could support two at that income.

If kids come into the picture and additional 30k would keep things as they are.

Lake Charles?

I used to live in Crowley.

Median income in Utah is around $33K. Average home price is roughly $175K. In the last 6 months, I've lost $__K/ mo. in income because I won't state said people's income to get them into a home. Cars cost the same everywhere. Gas is pretty close everywhere, food is the same everywhere. Fucking hell. What are people doing? Shopping at Pottery Barn Kids for everything? I see Navigators, Cayennes, Denalis, all over the place. I know what these people make, why are they doing that? I do Ok, and I'm still driving a Subaru. I know what I want, I can afford it, but I don't want the $1,500/ mo. payment that goes with a fuggin car. It's a car for Chrissake.

Awwfuckit.

well, since an "upper middle class" looking home will cost about 1.2 mil in LA or surrounding suburbs, you're looking at about 6k/month after 200k down. Based on teh recommended "under 28% of net income" that means you should be making about 21,500 a month. Which works out to 260k per year. That's not even "upper class".. mind you you have lost almost all deductions to phaseout by this income level so you are pretty much screwed. Also remember 1mil max net mortgage interest deduction. Market is way out of balance IMO.

A. Credit

B. People love to live beyond their means.

Need??? I'll answer you honestly (all numbers are annual, some are "ballpark" estimates):

Child support: $13,260
Mortgage: $11,700
Food: $6,500 (+/-)
Auto Repairs/Gas/Inspections/Registration: $3,000 (+/-)
Cable/Phone/Internet: $2,760
Vitamins: $1,800 (+/-)
Electric and Gas: $1,560 (+/-)
Auto Insurance: $1,520
Heating Oil: $1,200 (+/-)

So, the BARE minimum, those numbers total out to be $32,770 USD, which is about $27,402 Eur, not even COUNTING unexpected expenses, and veterinary, clothes, animal food, etc., I'm just giving raw numbers. We may spend more than the average on some stuff, less than others, we all have our priorities, things like the fact we own cars that are NOT new, but we own them outright, so we don't have auto payments, but we do have higher repair costs ...

$700 a month, total ... what a concept  Last time I bought my kids winter boots the total was $180 for the two pairs :lmao:

I had a Saturn for a long time. You're being smart. Build up until you reach a critical mass of assets, then leverage your creativity to really make some breakthroughs.

The cost of living is alot lower here than the west or the east coast, I couldn't make anywhere else on my salary, yet I live comfortable here.

Agree.

And the same amount when they grow up and leave.
Then you can really buy some stuff for yourself, your kids (they still need)
and the grandkids. :)
