How many SHAKES is too MANY?

Very debatable issue..............would like to hear some discussion on how many shakes is excessive.........Many bros alternate, solid, shake, solid, shake etc........nice plan, but that turns out to be 3+ shakes a day.........For me, if I have a myoplex mid-am, than a whey/flax pre-workout, a whey/gluco. post workout.........and a casein shake before bed, we're looking at 4 a day with only 2 whole food meals on most days......(with work, sometime I have to have a shake pre and post....and then another one before bed with nothing else other than peanuts.......) makes me worried.......... :worried:

I try NOT to take more than 2 shakes a day

[A can of tuna is almost as convenient as a shake for example]

3 a day here. morning, pre workout and post workout

if I was bulking though I wouldn't worry about how many I was drinking, just as much as possible.

only 2 real meals a day? damn dude. You can throw something together to fix that

I have a small one with every meal to get my protein up over the 500g barrier

I shoot for 3, no more than 4. I prefer real food, but if for some reason I run out of chicken or tuna, then I will go up to 6 a day (while gritting my teeth).

Damn, I envy you. I wish I could afford this much protien.

It's really not that pricey if you buy your protein in bulk. I probably spend about 15 bucks a week on protein, not that bad considering that is about the same dollar amount as 2 super sized extra value meals from McD's.

Jkurz,
I think 3 is more than enough. There is the potential to mess with your GI if you dont have enough solid foods.

I've switched to 2...1 PW and 1 pre-bed...........

I think that is a much wiser chose, but let us know if you feel any different.

I quit drinking all shakes 9-10 months ago. I have a slow metabolism, but recover very quickly. I know, it doesnt make any sense. However, when i was drinking them, i gained a pound for every shake i drank. I finally decided that was enough.

Don't believe everything you read......

Cwik - hahah-- don't kid yourself bro...........you DIDNT get fat from protein shakes....good try..........

That wasnt what i meant at all.

Whenever i drink a protein shake i convert it relatively easy. I just didnt like the scale to continually go up. Once i hit 250 that was enough. Believe it or not less than 2 years ago i flucuated between 205 and 210, but then i started training 5 days a week, from 3.

One for breakfast...2 scoops ON whey, G-Plenish and 1 cup dry oats blended iwith 16oz 2% milk and one post workout...3 scoops ON AfterMax with G-Plenish.

Is there really a problem with consuming a lot like Borg claims he does? I use them a lot too, because it's cheaper. The only thing more cost effective would be tuna, but that's got the mercury issue and I sure as hell don't want 4+ cans a day.

Chicken is expensive. So is lean beef. In bulk. Eggs are descent, but too many of those and there's a risk of cholestrol.

So, I saw Cwick said something about messing with your GI. I don't get what you mean by that man. Elaborate with some science, if you would. I wanna make sure there aren't any extremely high detriments to taking shakes.

i try to take in 3-5 daily. try blend'n a scoop of raw oats in ur am shakes, it gives u good complex carbs and it also keeps it from goin right through u

6 big meals, 3 shakes 1 in the am 1 in the after noon and 1 pwo and 3 tuna apple cocktails.....................6000 cals all clean baby!

40 grams @ 8 AM
40 grams @ 3 PM
40 grams @ 8 PM (post work out)
40 grams @ 11:30 PM
toal is 160 grams

about 160 from whole foods

I only have one complete liquid meal per day and that's my workout shake. I have roughly six shakes per day but combine most with whole foods. My milk isolate is 1.48 cents per gram and has a great amino acid score.
