Gee Wiz Matt, no need to be such a dick! I didnt get my law degree from a Cracker Jack box, how the fuck could you say that if you dont even know where I went? And for your information, my best friend got his law degree from Harvord. He was in the top 15% of his class, and his first job started him at $60,000 a year. Bottom line is this, until you have experience you have to pay your dues.

I passed on starting a practice and refused to work for that little. I sell software and make close to $150,000 a year. A few years back I was making $200,000+ (when the economy was good).

Not sure why you decided to answer my post like you did, I got nothing against you. Shit, I have never even chatted with you before or posted on a thread of yours, whats the deal Matt?

I actually was addressing the glut of attorneys, which drives salaries down, not your law degree. There are thousands of attorneys who did get their degree in a Cracker Jack box.

There are probably other factors in your friend's case, like location. In NY city, a top Harvard grad can get $150K or more the first day out of school. Maybe he wants to do something like public service.

For you it was a good decision, not to practioce. I left the IT biz (and a salary similar to yours - I was a Cisco guy when Cisco guys were needed) to manage attorneys at a startup outsourcing operation. The pay is higher here, but so are the stress levels.

I wasn't flaming you. Relax.

I majored in English. It's very valuable to my work...I am a freelance writer. Sometimes the value of a major not only lies in the skills that one acquires while studying, but the analytical thought that comes with schooling. Just my .02 I hate when my friends that never went to college talk shit about me being a college boy. They still think and act the same way that they did in high school, which is fine, because they're good guys, but I grew.

Cool... I've got a BA in English/History and currently work at a bank part time while I'm doing my MBA. I also thought of investment banking but I'm more of an entrepreneur and I'm not going to a top 5 school. I'm going into automotive financing when I'm done, I'd eventually like to own my own car dealership.

I've been in sales for the last few years and the money is not there and the only skills I'm using are the ones I developed while partying and trying to pick up chicks.

Can't wait to put the 'ole finance skills to work!
