Anyway - does Oprah Winfrey have power? $900M, a magazine, millions of dedicated viewers, a book club? Who is more powerful? Oprah or Powell? seriously!

How about Michael Jordan? An entire generation of kids grew up with him. He built Nike and entrenched the NBA as a major revenue machine. For 15 years he put 20,000 asses in seats around the country, millions of viewers, and caused billions to be spent.

Magic Johnson? $300M in holdings throughout the LA area? Powerless?

How about Robert Johnson, founder of BET, worth over $1B? powerless? Nope.

FCC chairman Michael Powell? Any power there?

And it is also kinda funny how you trivialize the power of the Sec of State (Powell) and NSA. (Rice) As if they were distant cabinet outsiders.

Off the top of my head, well FCC chairman Michael Powell is black. Also Clarence Thomas (allegedly LOL). I am sure I can find more with some searching.

Is there a greater point here? Blacks are 1/7 of the population, so seeing them in smaller numbers among teh President;s inner circle is hardly a shock. Yet through their (according to you, trivial) media influence, have tremendously influenced behavior and American culture.

o.k. the serious side of knight is here, seriously the media has nothing to do w/ this. Its peoples bahavior and the way they percieve the black person. if they wouldnt want everything for nothing and quit complaining about everything, and stay in school, and go to college and stay out of jail and stop leaving the women they get pregnant and be father figures and stop killing their own kind maybe just maybe they will earn respect!!!!!
