LOL, bro..... I just thought it was interesting that you think of these political positions as positions of power.

I'd say that a few of my other examples have a lot more power.

Colin Powell has power over 300,000,000 people. That is a little more than anyone with a single gun.

Do you REALLY think that a single politically appointed man/woman has REAL power over the whole population? Can Colin Powell pull a piece of metal 1/4th of an inch and instantly take the lives of 300,000,000 people.... with a good possibility of getting away with it? Politicians have LOTS of people that they have to answer to for their decisions and actions. In the US, the PEOPLE are supposed to be the ones in power over the govenment.

Being seen byu the masses is a power in itself. People psychologically build a link with people they see often (negative or positive).

Without being exposed to those men, their words would not affect as many people, pure and simple.

Hence reference power. Your typical person convinced my JJ's rhetoric isn't going to differentiate between the message being conveyed by the media or by the President, Governor, etc. All power is equal in the eyes of the uneducated.
