How long will a needle stay infected

Out of curiosity, how long will a needle stay infected after use. And can HIV be passed through an IM injection, I would assume that it is less likely but still possible. I am trying to educate Bodybuilders in my area on the dangers of sharing needles and using drugs in unsanitary environments. Don't get me wrong, I am all for Anabolics as long as the safety and health precautions are weighed.

Just tell them this...why would you share a needle anyway?? It's not like they're hard to find. Ask yourself this...do you really trust the other person to put your life at risk. Some people have HIV or other diseases that they're unaware of. So why risk?;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

HIV has a weak protein envelope and can survive in the "air" for just a couple of hours.

Problem is, is that if you have HIV you probably have other viruses hanging around that are sturdier and go dormant for long periods of time.

Don't take the chance.

it can be passed via IM

any contact with bodily fluids puts u at risk

stay clear of any used needles - u have so much to loose, and for what????

not only HIV and what about hepatitis B and C....needles cannot be shared...they are easy to get and cheap...the hepatitis virus is very virile...no way

I can't imagine why anyone in the year 2001 would share needles for any reason considering the risks and the fact that syringe prices are so cheap. If you're told that the AIDS virus will only survive for two hours, would you then feel comfortable using the same needle an HIV+ user had already used after the 2 hours was up? I don't think so---get a new needle already.

The fact is nooene is completely sure about how long the virus lasts on metal.

some tests where the air was very dry showed strains lasting only 40 mins however in more humid climates tests showed the virus sometimes lasting beyond 2 days.

never under any circumstances ever shares needles unless you like playing russian roulette.

adepss,

I was wondering if you could post a book reference from which you retreived the data in your statement above. I am always looking for new and interesting studies on the virus especially one that conflict with published data. There are many of them. Thanks for the post.....
