How long since EF Forums had a design style change?

Is it just me or does the design for EF forums seem a lil' old school? I feel like the appearance of the forums hasn't changed much since 2001 since I joined here. The header has changed but not much else. I've noticed other forums on the net I visit have been upgraded to a rounder cleaner look. Digger? George? :)

i GUESS they are waiting of you to pop the cherry first////

I just joined, but I noticed that this site has only one type of format to it, most forums have like different styles and backgrounds you can use depending on your choice

Like a black background with red text, or a green background with white text. ect..

I think this sites layout is good though, makes everything easy to read and the way its organized is clean

EF has changed numerous times throughout the years.

I think I've seen some newer versions of VBulletin, but they didn't seem to differ much from whatever version EF currently has.

Lots of forums out there are way too overdone with colors and graphics, making them hard to read and the screen overly "busy" with excess crap. It's like they forgot the forum was a medium for written commmunication.

Steve, post up some examples of some of these forums that you're looking at. It'd be interesting to compare/contrast them.

i agree it needs a change but most forums you see are set up the same way. my guess is the lack of plat memberships and karma money income will keep them from doing anything else to change. its a shame they change the rules every few months but do not offer anything new

exactly, some forums are way to hard to find your way around and actually read.

there is another open source steroid forum ( don't know if i'm aloud to say it ) that is so difficult to navigate your way around. Not to mention the background is black and the text is all red. It is so difficult to read

I don't think it has anything to do with money. Visual and other format changes can be made in any given version of VBulletin. I just don't think anyone sees any real reason to change other than for the sake of change.

here's a site i just found on google that lets you pick the style of the bulletin layouts you want (colors/text/style)

Go all the way down to the bottom of the page's left hand corner and you'll see a text "--silver blue" if you click on the arrow it will give you different options on how you want to view the site. But notice how all of them are pretty difficult to read

-This one I like, very new and clean looking, good color scheme, uses vbulletin.

http://forums.anandtech.com/
-Also very cool. Uses Fusetalk.

Both of those 2 I would say are not overdone. They just look nicer and newer. Things are rounder, not as box-like, and relaxing fonts and color schemes.
