How long does it take to get infected?

Tuck

New member
I know I'm paranoid, but every time I jab, I'm always afraid that I did something wrong -- or the gear is tainted -- and I infected myself.

And that makes me wonder: just how long after a jab does signs of infection appear?

Thanks. And here's hoping none of us has to deal with the consequences of an infection!

it is not instant--the spot will swell, feel warm, turn color, red lines often run away from the site....but the problem is when your body temp elevates/chills/etc---then you go see a doc.

Just be sure and do everything sterile. Being paranoid isn't necessarily a bad thing. Always swab, use fresh needles, swab again after you pull out etc. Now if I could only take my own advice....

I have the couple days of feeling hot and under the weather from injections and it will subside after 48 hours, nothing terrible ever happened. Hope the same to everyone. A guy I know had is leg infected quite badly, they almost had to amputate. Not sure if he was exaggerating when he told me that but I did see the pictures and beleice me, it was hideous all the skin on the thigh was pulled back and exposed to see the actual infected muscle underneath.

Steps for a perfect injection:

1) swab the bottle top with a fresh alky pad.
2) swab the injection site about 2 inches to 3 inches with another fresh alky pad.
3) after needle pull-out, swab the injection site immediately then put pressure on the
the injection site with cotton / toilet paper to avoid bruising for 30 seconds.
4) swab the bottle top again with a new alky pad.

- you're good to go. I usually lean up against the wall with a bundle of toilet paper pressing against my injection area. I love injecting my shoulders - and have done so soley since using gear. I really hate getting bruises there - so pressure is a must, and remember your favorite spot!

Also, here's something else to think about. I've used high dosed testosterone compounds in the past like 400 enth/cyp test and my whole arm would swell up, get hot and turn red. I know the compound wasn't dirty, it was my body not being used to the high dosings..and I know a lot of bro's who can't handle the 400mg shots.. Not, 2 ccs of 200 mgs, the kind that comes dosed at 10ml/400mg..

Also, I had just the nastiest sides from Boldenone Prop..OMG..that stuff is the father of all painful injections..and I couldn't work out for weeks..never again!

I agree completely with below but you should always mention to make DAMN sure wherever you are injecting to get the needle INTO the muscle. If you dont get muscle, that can generate some serious problems. You know, this should be a sticky or someone should make one on injecting, needle lengths, gauges, compounds, pain expectations from certain locations etc... just a thought but I dont know sheeeit, I am not even plat. :)

Good idea, smalls.
I saw a site on where to inject, etc a while back, but I don't remember where it is. I hit the quads, but would like to know some other areas and needle sizes that are best.
Do any of the mods want to tackle this?

That site is siteinjections.com but I think it would be well served to have a sticky on it. Everyone that sticks themself should have as much info as possible and others can post up what problems to watch out for and how deep needle should be in what body part and make sure to aspirate. I think it would be a must read for anyone getting ready to inject anything into themselves. Site injection site is good but doesnt tell what to expect pain wise in regards to different compounds etc.... Maybe a mod will see this. For the record, my first stick, glutes, I almost didnt take the needle deep enough and could have screwed my 1st inject. :worried:

another thing i would like to add, i always point the pin up squeeze a drop out to let it run down and lubricate the pin, then i rotate and allow the drop to flow back to the top.
sterile pin & lubricated......thats my preference.makes a smooth inj.

site injection is not all that.yeah, obviously rotate injection sites so as to avoid over pinning certain sites and the scar tissue issues that come with it, but put it this way-if a guy has been cycling and training well for the past 5 years, and always pinning in his glute, why isnt that arse cheek so muscled that it sticks out 9 inches from the other one?

Which brings me back to the original question: how long does it take for the infection to show itself? Does it take hours? a few days? a week?
I always breathe a sigh of relief if I wake up the following morning with no pain and no fever, but am I being premature?

Difficult question, since everyone's metabolism and immune system is different, i had one in my forearm and it took about a week , then i noticed it wasn't going away , i was out of town so it was 2 weeks before i could see the Dr.It was getting to the size of a large marble, had to be cut open & Drained, It was completely painless.

Note to self: "don't shoot in the forearm!" haha.

I remember when this happened Radar..didn't you use the excuse that you were at the races and a wasp stung you there? I thought that was a nice excuse :)

Man, there are so many variables in play here.

Good rule of thumb: Don't worry about it until it is swollen and red and hot.

You have an excellent memory sir!

Yep! The Dr. Bought it, since i added that i saw a few around trash cans ,the Dr. Replied that whatever they touch(bacteria) you catch it when they sting-bite.

Usually the next day it will start to get red warm and very tender to touch. If it starts to get red just ICe it and warm wet compresses alternate 4 times a day. This should help bring your body's goodies to the yard an help fight the infection. it is good to be paranoid up to a point. keep it up bro.
