how long does home brew last?

i was doing some moving and found a bottle of fina and a bottle of prop (syno) in handbag inside my closet. i forgot when i prepared them but it was around jun of last year. the fina expired on the summer of 06 and the prop expires this summer. should i just throw them away or are they good for a cycle? they've been kept in a cool dry place but they have been sitting for about a year. are they safe?

I've seen three years as the recommended guideline figure, so long as it doesn't have anything fuzzy growing inside the vial. After just one year, it should be as good as new. Get into the habit of sticking something to the vial indicating when you made the stuff.

thanks for the reply guys. i was concerned if they lose their potency or get contaminated if they have been in their liquid state for over a year.

the only way to really know is to analyse it in a lab.

the expiry dates on drugs are determined by a temerature assisted degradation model (where manufacturers 'age' the drug prematurely and see how the formulation handles it)

a suspension in an oil with preservative in there should happily last years though, generally speaking
