that you might have an injection site problem. My injection last monday went terribly, from forgetting to swab the bottles, to forgetting to get the air out before sticking myself and having to change needles, to then having to stick myself again, etc. Ultimately I got it done, but wouldnt you know it, the site is now looking like a freaking bee sting, puffy and red, but not too bad. First time this has happened to me and it ticks me off cause I should know better. Let this be a lesson not to hurry too much.

Anyway, what are the odds of it going away on its own, or should I get it looked at before it gets worse if thats what it is going to do? Its not painful, but is does itch a bit. I dont have any oral antibiotics to take right now, so not an option unless I go see a MD. I appreciate your help.

If it's red and puffy like you say then only questiona left are... Is it hot to the touch and does it hurt? If yes, then start an anti-biotic like doxycycline for a week. You'll be fine.

It doesnt hurt right now, just itches a bit. I guess I will keep an eye on it for a while unless it starts to hurt.

i've stuck the same area twice before and it turned red and bumped up a little almost instantly. i think i was just irratated a little cause i injected quite close to where i tried to the first time.

He said the it is itchy because the oil is stretching out the skin. Do I have to get an anti-biotic too? or will this just go away?

That is kind of a dumb-ass explanation from your gym parter. Streching out the skin eh? Well for starters, you should be shooting IM, not SUB Q.

You need to hook up with someone who knows what the fuck they are doing.

If there is no pain then you might be able to give it a few days and reevaluate.

If it starts to hurt and is still red and warm you should suck it up and go to the doc.

An abcess is usually encapsulated which is why it gets hard.

Here you go. This is one of the most famous threads on my site, but it's down, so hopefully I remember it all.

You can drain it yourself.

5ml 10% BA water in 5ml syringe.

Inject that into abcess and work it around while leaving needle in.

Now the puss is thin enough to draw out. Draw out 5ml and you can remove syringe and draw out as much more as you can.

Make another 5ml of 10% BA water and inject that in and leave it or it may be inject 1-2 ml of straight BA, I don't remember.

That's it.

Injecting into the abcess won't hurt as it's encapsulated at that point. In a couple days it will start to go down as the BA inhibits bacteria growth.

It's tried and true and nobody who has done it ever came back and said they then had to go to a DR!

Tell him that you were putting away the Christmas tree and one of the wire bulb hangers stuck you in the leg...

JP I had the same thing a few times, Red,itchy, sometimes pressing you could feel a lump it took a while but it eventually absorbed on its on. As long as it doesn't get worst-keep an eye on it!

I have a similar problem, too. I'm not doing so great with sticking myself these days.


On Fri, I injected into my thigh. No problems. Wiped the bottle, used a new syringe to draw, drenched my thigh in alcohol, used new a 23g 1" tip and pretty much buried it. Aspirated. Injected a tiny amt and waited 30 sec. Injected the rest of it.

Blood came out when I pulled out. Guess I nicked a vessel. No big deal.

Saturday AM, I was fine. I did legs at 1pm, I stretched out first and was feeling limber and good. Saturday night (same day) I went in to sit in the sauna and I realized that my leg was a little swollen by the kneecap, not where I injected.

It's visually puffy and I can't bend it much. Feels like it's full of fluid.

I'm going to monitor it. If it gets any worse, I'm going straight to a doc. I think it would be good to have a bottle of doxycycline on hand, just in case it happens in the future.

It's one of those "what the hell" type of things. Anyone have any idea what happened?
