make sure you are not eating too much protienTri Girl said:I think there's too many carbs (even in Phase One of the SBD) to get into ketosis... but I could be wrong.
I'm doing Atkins, eating 11g of carbs a day (they recommend under 20) and my keto strips are only pink... I can't seem make them purple. I can't figure it out. Maybe you and I are very metabolically resistant.![]()

you'll need a fat intake higher than protien intake and almost 5 times that of carb

I dont think it matters how "deep" you get into ketosis.
your in if your in.
without a high % of fat the body will go to another source for glycogen....protienJoBu said:I don't understand. Ketosis happens when your body doesn't have enough carbs to meet energy requirements...and it has to resort to something else...fat. What is the physiological mechanism behind your suggestion of high fat intake?

you will become catabolic instead of ketogenic
and instead of losing fat your body will start to burn protien first
here is something to read:

look to FAQ some of it is abit technical but you'll get the idea
dr0832 said:Its common sense. Your dropping carbs your bodys main source of energy which for most people in america is high carbs and in place of carbs you substituting high fat. The reason for this is your body won't work properly without a source of energy and also since your body needs a lot of energy in order work properly when you deplete your the fat that you've eaten (like glycogen storage in your muscles) your body will tap into you fat stores and you will begin to lose fat. The protein is necessary to help main tain muscle, although you still win lose some muscle over time. If you were to do a low carb diet without eating fat your body would just start converting protein into glucose and using that for energy and you would start to lose all your muscle and maintain body fat. Also you would start to seriously starve yourself unless you were to eat a huge amount of protein like 500g.
