i am currently in medicine, (almost finished) - im in field training where im in a local family doctors office working under a briliant doctor. some of his patients that i see are currently on methadone, which is used in the treatment of opiate or opiate drug dependency, including herion, oxycontin, vicodin to name a few. one of the most common side effect we see in opiate dependent males in lowered testosterone. this trend is thus continued while the patient sublements methadone to stave off withdrawal - thus a testosterone replacement is needed.
other patients that i have prescribed it to are males which are at the age where their natural test. is not what it used to be and thus replacement theapy is needed.
so you can either get addicted to drugs or just wait until your 50
I have written scripts for males ranging in age from 21 to about 60. dosages range from 100mg every 4 weeks to 400mg every 4 weeks. I allways start the patient at 100mg (unless severly supressed) - after one month the patient comes back to have their test levels checked. if they are still low I raise the them to 200mg and the process continues until we reach the desired level. rarely does a patient require 400mg, generally 200 - 300mg is sufficient. the patient does not have to come in for their shot (they can do it themselves if this is requested), generally they come in once a month for their shot, and any checkups can be done at this time. if at anytime it is believed the patient is filling their prescription and not using the test, the script will be cancelled. test levels are checked every 6 months - thus if your on 300mg and you levels were as low as the day you strolled in here - your script would be cancelled. generally the pharmacy we use carries test. cyp. but it all depends on what type of test. your specific pharmacy stocks. recently the "newer" test. gel has become available to us and I will ask the patient if they would prefer this, only it must be aplied every night and can be a bit oily and some people may get a slight rash from it. this decision it completly up to the patient
generally one bottle is despensed at a time from the pharmacy. ie. 1 10ml bottle of test. cyp. 100mg strength. (patient recieves 200mg a month, 2cc per month, 10ml bottle 100mg strenth script is good for 5 months, thus your not getting another one for 5 months)
I know this has been wordy, but it is hard to summarize so much info. hope it helps though
