How fat do you REALLY get?

OK...here's a question....say you have a 12 weeker planned....to bulk, from a previous intense cut. Why wouldn't you just eat balls out for those 12 weeks, ensuring you get 1-2g/lb of protein, but letting everything else be fair game? I mean, how fat can you truly get in 12 weeks? I would think it's 10x better to overeat and overrest than it would be to overtrain and undereat, agreed? Sure, be reasonable, eat good clean foods for the most part, but if you're hungry after that 3rd plate of pasta or want to go out on the weekends for some good meals, by all means, do it.

I would also wager that it's easier to cut after 12 weeks of a lose diet than to be totally strict throughut and then have to cut down.

thats the approach I used for the past year, and I got the fattest I've ever been, which are the pics in the pic forum...I could still see the outline of my abs. I put on some weight I didnt want to, but I got very big and strong, now I've been dieting for less than a month, and already look pretty good with my shirt off, so its well worth it to me.
What caused me the most fat gain was eating the same while "off", thats when most of the fat came

hell ye bro, thats the fun part of bulking. nobody like keeping a perfect dieat and doing cardio, thats why cutting sucks. but we all like to eat and we all sure as hell love to lift. the only time i am ever short tempered is when i am trying to loose weight. other then that its smoooth sailing through calm seas. :Chef: :RADAR :RADAR :D

I see no point in getting above 12-15% bodyfat maximum.......If your are pounding calories at 12% then you are more than likely just putting on more fat.

You can get fat easy depending on your metab. My pics in my gallery are me at my heaviest. Now its cut down time approaching.

I am doing that as we speak. For lunch today I had 7 of the KFC stacker sandwiches...I think I am going to die...

I love bulking...

i can never get fat no matter what, so its slow steady gains for me. no fat ever. i ate a dozen krispy kremes last night on top of my 5000 cals and protein. i think i lost weight. lol

Just depends on what works for you. Look at Lee Priest and Dexter Jackson. Both go hog-wild offseason, Lee gets freakin' FAT and Dexter stays much leaner... but who's bigger? Lee by a long-shot! At least, he used to be. 5'7" 215 is nothing like 5'4" 220 like Priest used to be. Being THAT fat off-season doesn't seem healthy though. I eat pretty much whatever I want off-season but have never been measured over 10% bf, I can always see top two abs, though rarely anything else :)

For me it's more a matter of general health. When you're doing stuff that is going to raise your BP and possibly wreck your lipid profile, slamming bacon double cheeseburgers and french fries can take it's toll on your body. I was also a fatso growing up, so I constantly live with the "fear" that starting those old habits again will make me fall off the wagon.

I think for the needsizes of the world, it can obviously work. But I'm not so inclined to believe my metabolism or habits can come anywhere close to matching theirs. I think it's different for everyone.

unfortunately it seems to be the only way I can add more mass

I ate all kinds of crap in my last bulker, a days diet was like 2 x double 1/4lbers, loads of pastries and cakes, a whole chicken with the skin on, white bread, pbj's.. ice cream, shakes with 6 whole eggs and shitloads of cals basically & 500-600gs protien a day (proably too much as I wasnt taking any serious anabolics... no eq or deca, just raw androgens)

I went from about 10% to about 15%, added 100lbs+ to all my big lifts and a couple inches to my gut :/

Its all a trade off dude... if you're a lucky SOB who can 'bulk' clean and add the lbs more power to ya, I have to cram in all kinds of dirty cals to get the weight up.

when i'm gaining i just eat what my body tells me too- i don't go on a crazy binge diet at all, because if i eat well above and beyond what i want to eat, not only will i get fat, but i will have other issues (umm...bathroom) too which isn't very nice. I've been gaining very well with 3500 calories off (no workout) days and 4100 calories on (workout) days and still doing cardio after generally each workout.

i never eat totally clean either. i find i have to eat tasty food whether i am bulking or cutting...

I did 3,500 cals my last bulk and was putting on 3 lbs a week. I ate whatever but just made sure my protein was up to par. I went up to belt sizes too. I spent several months trying to get my fat back down, which is a lot tougher for me. This time around I am trying it a lot cleaner and with some Test assistance to see how it goes.

Your Dead on man !
It a life thing for me , all the way , the thought of eating McDonalds makes me ill
My only vice is an occasional double espresso frap from that Starb, er, place :)

oh as for gaining weight, I think I loose when I'm on.
Last time I looked like a fricken meatballon with bloat
I dropped over 10lbs of water weight the week I came off , scared the crap out of me I thougth I was loosing muscle but it was 99% water.

Well I have always been doing bulking bulking bulking!!!! but in august going to do my first cutting , right now at 250lbs with 17% body fat hoping to loose about 25lbs and keep the muscle that I have, maybe drop to 12% body fat. I would be doing tren/prop/winny/eq/var , but yeah I'm sick looking like football player which I was, I want to look good for the ladies now lol

3500 calories to bulk, damn, I wish, my contest diet that I am slowly starving on is around 3200

I was waiting for someone to mention Lee. The man's an animal. I say get fat while bulking, but not too fat.

i've never been able to get the right amount of calories, so im always bulking. my next plan should put me about 6000 calories. sounds like a lot but trust me, i can eat dirty, semi-clean, binge. when the workout intesity goes up, the pounds go down.

so, do you guys still adhere to the 2-3 hour rule, do you just snack between meals, or do you just eat whenever you are freakn hungry?

Crap man I gained 2 lbs just reading that. LOL I NEVER have a proboem gainign muscle but losing fat is a literal war of the worlds. I can't lose fat hardly at all and I frigin hate it. I guess deep down inside me, my inner wayne is a caveman or something.

I have the hardest time putting on mass, yet I can diet down in no time to sub 7-8% levels. I guess it's the way my body is tuned, I get tired of eating so damn much.

I'm figuring I'm not able to play this game 100% clean, so I may decide to eat strict M-F and let the weekends go haywild....well, sorta. Anyone see results with this approach?

It dpends on the individual person and whether or not they are on or off. Some guys might eat everything and stay at 8% BF while others look at a doughnut and gain 5lbs of fat. I see no need to just let yourself go. Eat a lot more good food and some occasional junk if you can. A healthy 1000 calorie meal is better than a 1000 calorie McDonalds fest.

i could easily bulk with 3500 calories :)
you'd probably be in a coma if you tried to live on my intake :)

Genetics plays a part too. My father was extremely strong, but put on body fat easily. I got his genetics there, but thanks to a strong knowledge of diet and exercise, I have always keps in good shape. When I bulk, I do get a little fat even when eating clean, but its only temporary.

I disagree here. The less bf you put on, the easier it's to cut.

If you wanna just add size just don't worry about eating do all you can while bulking but make sure its the right food, If you just want to look cut then don't eat that way and do it right. It's all about the phase you are in.

I say
bulk = eat all you can
cut = eat a lot, but eat the right foods
