How far in advance do you plan trips?

Anything above 3-4 weeks in advance seems weird to me.Closer to the truth is a few days before is the norm.

How am I suppsed to know where I'll want to be six months fromm now? I dont even assume I'll be alive six months ahead of time?

Are you spur of the moment or does everythign have to be planned out well ahead of time?

I'm a planning freak.

Even my spur of the moment trips, I'll sit there for a good 2-3 hours researching the best way, possible stops, best priced hotels, decent restaurants, points of interests and alternate routes in case of traffic/construction.

I think I'll jump in my car and drive down to the coast and watch the ocean. Anyone wanna join me?

I like to plan my weekends starting Friday. I like to plan my trips a week or two before, but most of the time I have to plan it 2-3 months ahead of time so other poeple that are going can put in to get off work. As usual it's all about them and not me me me!

I use to love my trips to Mexico to get my gear. So much excitement and stopping in little small town stores to get coffee, I miss it.

If it was to see someone i cared about, i'd want to plan it right away.

2 days max...Ill do the reasearch etc

Minimum 2 months. I always know where I'm going. Beach resort of some kind. Carry...Bean.

I have been planning for my asian trip for over six months(scheduled for march). If planning included saving money for it, finding places to stay, getting in touch with freinds in countries you plan to visit etc.

Short trips I sometimes do with a couple days planning, like spending a day in Philly or someplace within a few hours drive.

My last good vacation was to Vegas in 2002. When I saw the rates the airlines were offering I booked the tickets with about three weeks advance and planned the hotel, car rental, and activities after.

If I was planning a trip around an event that is a big draw I would plan well in advance. Mardi Gras in New Orleans - (if you want a decent place to stay) reserve months in advance.

Depends what kind of trip. Short trips, yeah a couple weeks or so is fine. Longer trips...like a couple weeks are more in far far away locales....then I'll plan a few months in advance at least. For instance I'm planning a trip for this summer right now tentatively.

I never plan. I rarely pack. I just go.

spur of the moment is the only way to ever go. seriously. the stuff that F%$%^ up on the way is what makes trips fun. it cost me $200 to get someone to pull my jeep out of a place i drove it on a spur of the moment trip.
