How do you pay for Christmas?

With the incredible expense that the Holiday season brings, how do you pay for it all? Do you save up and pay cash only? Or do you use credit cards and then pay it off later? Or do you do both?

This is the first year in my life that i have not had to scrounge to get through Christmas:D no credit cards, cash only for me. and the best part is being able to GIVE great presents and see how excited the person gets when they open it

Well, I got tired of buying gifts for people that they don't need just to buy them something. I mean, how many sweaters does a person need?

So, what I do now is make things for Christmas, like gift baskets, cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, decorations (ie hand painted slates), that kind of thing. I think something hand made is more personal. I pick up supplies for the baskets all during the year & store them in a box & just put them together when I need them.

i'd be pissed if i got cookies for xmass

on the other hand, choc covered pretzels would rule

i agree completly!

way to manny sweaters in my closet. i feel like bill cosby!
we stress way too much over trying to juggle the insane amount of money we spend just to keep our lifestyle and a superficial holiday that is getting more emty by the year. buy small things that mean something.

i like your idea jen, that is a much more intamate gift.

wow Jen. Youre one of those creative Martha Stewart types i admire so much! Wish i could be more like that:rolleyes:

My boss gives me a Christmas Bonus each year, so as long as the money I spend doesn't exceed that amount I come out even or ahead.

Cash, I learned my lesson years ago. I also spend the time to find something unique or something that they are interested in. The thing that bothers me most, is when someone buys you something without putting any thought into it.

true dat. i hate when someone says "oh just get me a gift certificate". what kinda shit is that? i like to get something the person really needs or wants, even if it is something small, it means alot

Someone I'm supposed to be friends with gave me a watch last year with a turquoise band. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't wear jewelry or watches. So, while the thought is supposed to count, obviously they put NO thought into the gift. I'd rather get cookies.

The cookies arent' really just cookies -- homemade fudge, brownies, choc covered pretzels, etc. All handmade. I put a lot of effort into it.
