How do you go about it?

When there are people curling at the squat rack and you want to squat..what do you do? do you tell them to step to the side because they don't need it to do curls and it's a must to have it to squat? and do you get bitched at it because of it?

I'm going with my friend to the gym later today when everyone's off work and it's going to be crowded. All I'll need is a squat rack for a few minutes and I know for sure at least one person is going to be curling on it and maybe a few others working in sets. and I don't want to wait because a few lazy asses spending 2 hours curling can't simply deadlift 75 pounds to curl.

Well, my solution was to buy a power rack, bench, etc. when I started lifting 'cause I knew I wouldn't want to deal with crap like this at a commercial gym. ;)

Not that being reasonable will work, but you could try explaining that it's much easier/safer for them to curl outside the rack than for you to squat outside it.

lol nice answers. Actually as I got into the gym, the guy curling was just finishing his last set and I was able to squat .

At my university, asking politely has helped everytime. Maybe it's because I live in Canada and people are nicer. I tell them I'm backsquatting, they leave after a few minutes.
