how do you get the smoothest shave? I'm talking no follicles showing

All these people talk about shaving with the grain, but when I do that about 1/2 mm of the hair still remains (that's quick a bit for right after shavign). That's almost a stubble! The only way I can get it really smooth is by shaving against the grain, but for some reason they say don't do that. What's up with this?

My question is: How do the real smooth people shave? I've tried the fancy oil, and preshave crap, and all that, and all it does it make it less of a pain (no different on smoothness though).

I konw a 35+ yr old Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise must have thicker hair than a 19 yr old guy who doesn't even have all the hair follicles sprouting up yet. Still, it seems like I can't get it to where it looks like I don't hair any hair. What's the secret guys?

Greatly appreciated.

I dont think there is a secret dude. I also have to shave against the grain, and this makes it impossible for me to shave daily, usually I have to wait two days after I shave before I can do it again. If I shaved daily I would have to apply a tournequet to stop the bleeding, it really rips up my face. I think if you have sensitive skin and a heavy beard you have this problem. Well at least I am SILKY smooth about two or three days a week, the others I am sporting a rugged beard.

the problem is i don't have a rugged beard; it would probably be considered a light beard, as I am not hairy at all. That's the problem; it's one thing not getting a smooth shave it you're getting thick hair coming in, but I'm getting barely any hair on the cheeks and still can't get it to where it's silky smooth.

I use a Mach3, I use a toner preshave, then I've tried edge gel and ted baker shaving oil (which was like 16 dollars wasted since it didn't do jack).

Any better combination?

Thanks. I can't possibly be the only person who had to experiment to find the best shaving combination, right?

Some men just have naturally courser hair or thicker beards. My dermatologist had his beard lasered off and his face looks like the proverbial baby's bottom. But it almost looks a little strange because it is SO smooth. I'm not sure anyone else would want to spend the $$$ for all those treatments (the derm owns the laser machine so no prob for him).

I'm betting you don't see any stubble on Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise because of make-up or photographic air-brushing.

My husband is blond and his beard really isn't thick, but he has the same problem. He can't do a razor every day either, so he alternates with an electric shaver.

well...

just be glad if you are not one of the unfortunate guys who tend towards the "uni-brow" look. I have to shave my EYEBROWS against the grain (along with everything else). The only downside to this is that people must notice that on certain days i look like Rudolph the red-browed moron... and even then, follicles sometimes show. Maybe i should pluck. ouch

That Instanbul Cheese is some good shit

To get really close shaves, do it in the shower. I have to shave against the grain as well but doing it in the shower allows me to do it every day. The steam does something to your beard that makes it stand up more for a smoother shave. You could also put a hot towel on your beard, preshave, if you don't want to do the shower. I don't even use shaving cream when in the shower, the water brings your facial oils to the surface and like I said before, the steam stands the beard up so no need for the cream. Just some aftershave afterward.

The most comfortable close shave

First post on this board.

I might have the most sensitive skin possible but I have found a way to get a close shave without losing face. I work in the hotel business so I have to shave everyday.

I shave the facial area with the parasonic wet and dry shaver and the neck area with a blade. I do the whole thing in the shower with a hand held mirror.

I first get in the shower, get my face wet and warm and clean it with a facial cleanser. I then apply the clinique shaving cream (you have to try it). I massage it gently on my face and neck and then shave with the parasonic (which give you a very close shave and you can use it on shaving cream) and do the neck with a blade. I apply the clinic post shave healing lotion as the after shave.

It works for me.

1 - Buy a Mach 3 razor (I didn't believe it either until I tried one.)
2 - Try different lubes, soap (a girlie moisturizing one), shaving creme, hair conditioner - try them all until you find one that works for you
3- Rinse the blade often while shaving.
4- Change blades often.
5 - Don't go over the same area over and over - you just irritate your skin.
6 - Wait until your skin & hair has been softened by warm/hot water.
7 - Try shaving at the end or after your shower - softer skin and hair.

I'm a girl - I bet a shave more hard to reach places than you and I HATE HAIR anywhere on my body.

So - try the above, take two aspirin and PM me after a week of trying.
