how do you do neck bridges?

You can do it yourself, as long as you have no major neck problems. It basically involves arching your back and using the back of your head as support. Is there a specific reason that you want to do these? Its really a move that I have only seen used in wrestling.

Are those bad for your spine?

There is a very old powerlifter that trains in my gym. Pulled over 400 at a bodyweight of about 100. He can no longer squat and deadlift, and can't train heavy on anything. He has problems with his back/neck, which according to him comes directly from the wear and tear of the neck bridges he did when he wrestled.

They shouldnt be dangerous if you do them right and have good strength before you do them. I can definately see how they can cause damage if you do them incorrectly or your neck is not strong enough to support them. I personally think there are safer ways to make your neck stronger.

I'm just looking for a good way to strengthen my neck and somebody mentioned neck bridges in another one of my threads. What safer exercises are you referring to ruspa?

I've also read from some knowledgable authors that neck bridges are a dangerous movement, and there are much safer ways to strengthen the neck.

Either pressing a ball against a wall in different directions with your forehead, or using manual resistance, etc.

Does you gym have a neck machine? If not you can buy a portable one that you just add weight too. You can also do the 2 things that Debasser suggested and to increase the resistance just change your bodies angle in relation to the wall.

where can you get that portable machine you are talking about??

what about the neck harness where you would hang plates from your neck? anyone use that?

I am not exactly sure where you can find one. Try searching online at some fitness equiptment suppliers. Maybe a wrestling equiptment dealer may have them too.

Have neck harness at my gym,use it on squat days, motion can also be done easily with neck presses, front, back, left or right, just set plate(you figure which one)on your head with a towel to cushon it,lay on your back, front, left, right, side and move your head up then down,20 reps each....it works.
