how do i erase my hard drive?

I am typing in formart c drive but it won't allow me to do it through windows. I am giving it to a friend and want to clear the hard drive. Any ideas?

Yeah just insert your XP cd and reboot. then when you boot from the CD you have the option of formating the hard drive.
