How do bookmakers make money? 4everhung?

I was just curious to know how do the bookmakers make money and how much risk entails...

What on line sites let you bet on NFL games and such, now that a law just passed making on line bets illegal?

some bookmakers charge memberships for their tips.

some are paid by the casinos to create and update betting lines...

Open an account offshore and obtain a debit card...then bet on sites like Bodog using the offshore card.

I mean, when people bet on a lets say the superbowl game and the odds are:

Indianapolis 4/1 and Chicago 1/2....Where is the profit coming from.

I don't bet for real anymore
haven't in almost 20 years
I won,but it becomes too time consuming
weekends become black holes

of course back then all I had was US Today and Richard Bomze's "Sports Reporter"

Profit only happens if more people lose than win....regardless of odds offered.

Your average bettor takes the favorite more often than not.....which is why the house minimizes the odds on the favorite....and raise the odds on the underdog in hopes that more people will take a chance.

Default two cents
I'm old schooled...

Sports Reporter when Richard Bomze was the man, was as good as it gets in NFL... Mort Olshan was decent at gold sheet...

Other honest cappers were texas sportswire and inside information... win or lose they stood behind their selections.

Today's cappers are like people on crack... no nothing of their trade, but will dazzle you with their B.S. marketing.

The reason you see so many cappers on one team. the marketing squads wait for a decent capper to release a contest and then the marketing begins and the contest is resold as one of their own...

the times they are changing...

a suggestion from an ole' timer in this business. learn about numbers and the effect they have on market place.

example... Florida started out -3 and Iowa was +125 on money line.

ALL cappers are coming with Iowa... By kickoff - Iowa will be -2 and Florida will be +110 to +118...

Those who played Iowa on money line from +115 to +125 and wait till kickoff and buy florida +110 to +118 has a built in WINNER...

Most people know nothing about numbers on games. those who learn will attain success oveer the long haul...

good luck

that's a link to a recent wall street journal article

"The man who shook up Vegas"

he works 18 hours a day during peak season
sleeps in his office kind of shit for 2-4 hours at a time
Interesting..

"While they make money, Las Vegas sports-betting operations are not especially profitable. A typical Nevada sports book produces about $600 in revenue per square foot -- less than one-third of the revenue generated by slot machines or "pit" games like craps and blackjack. All told, sports books generate only about 1% of the state's gaming revenue. If they weren't such a draw for casino visitors, they might have been paved over by now."

I always knew that those damn slots make the most money for a casino,,
