How come the computer keypad and the phone keypad arent the same?

In the old days, the telephone switches were only able to handle input
at a slow rate..
So if you entered the numbers really fast it would crap out..

So they designed the keypad different than the keyboard so people would not be able to key in faster than it was able to handle it..
