How come some proteinpoweders are hard to "blend"

MrRTTB

I have some proteinpowder that is almost impossible to blend/mix because the protein turnes into big shunks and bits. Some proteinpowders are easier and some are harder. There is something called instant nowadays and I guess this will be easier to blend/mix, but what have they done with the instant powder not making it to turn into shunks?

How well it mixes has a lot to do with the quality and type of protein. Whey concentrate usually mixes clumpy when compared to a higher quality whey isolate. Also it depends on the company. Optimum Nutrition for example uses a low quality whey concentrate but adds soy lechithin so it mixes up better. Many a tricks can be played like this so be careful.

Hey Lance, how do you know ON uses low quality whey cuz if you can give me a good explanation then I will NOT be giving them my money anymore. Heck, before I started using ON I bought a 5lbs tub of Bioplex pure wpi and I thought it was better stuff based off consistency and texture, but wasn't sure how good quality was. Can you comment on that? Also, what are the best, highest quality brands of wpi and wpc? And why do people taught ON as being such good stuff if you're sayin it's low quality? Is it because of the cheap price because if it is I'll be damned if I'm gonna buy a cheaper protein. I don't what it costs, I want the best! Any feedback is appreciated.

I'm still waiting on the answer to my question? Does anyone else here know if Optimum Nutrition uses cheap whey concentrate and isolate? I'd rather pay more and get high quality than pay less and get average quality, but that's just me.

ON makes one of the better whey protiens,as far as my research tells me,quite a few people swear by it,go to all the different forums and do searches, sounds like ON is the shit and it mixes better than any I've tried,I used to use HDT also but it clogged me up all the time. And it was a bitch to mix.But hell, you can never tell what these companies are putting in this shit as far as quality or quantity goes.

Sorry to take so long I've been working like an O'mule. Anyways Optimum gets thier protein from Proteint. It's a 34% grade protein. What that means is of the 23grams of protein in the 100% whey only 34% is whey. The rest is protein fractions like lactose, milk sugars, ect. The other 66% is what that is. Because in an HPLC test these fractions come out as protein the FDA says they can still be considered protein on the label. Much the same way that companies put gelatin in the protein bars to bring up the protein content on the label. Gelatin cannot be absorbed; it's a useless protein. Most people don't know this loophole that companies use. I used to be a purchase agent for Optimum; it was my job to obtain these raw materials. As far as what companies to use it's really a toss. No one has to reviele what raw materials there using so you never can tell. A lot of companies use good materials on one batch and shitty ones on the next. NOW foods is infamous for this. The proteins that I use are syntrax Nectar and Isomatrix, Isopure is real good quality (they get thier protein from Glanbia which is good shit). The biggest tip off on how good a protein is is how well it digests. Typically the better it digests the better the quality. Optimum is getting smart because now they put digestive enzymes in thier protein so you don't realize how low grade it is. If I told you how they make thier Procomplex it would really piss you off.

ps. That Bioplex is probably the highest quality protein I've seen on the market. I'm surprised you've heard of it as most people haven't (small company). I know it's pricey but probably the best...currently. There is a couple of new supplement companies emerging that have the same quality with lower prices.

So I'm not getting 23 grams of protien per serving with ON?Is that what your saying,or are you saying that I'm getting my protien quantity just not quality?

Your right on both accounts. Your not getting 23grams of whey protein, but you are getting 23grams of protein. It's the other forms of protein your getting that you really don't want. You want a full 23grams of whey. ON has fooled most people into that.

Good info Lanceromance1

I've also heard that ON was just average quality (and that protein powder quality was much higher years ago)

I've also heard that the better the quality the worse the protein smells
Is it true ?

I've used some Prolab basic Whey
I guess it is not the higher quality but it is one of the cheapest and I just take more of it
