How can you Tax Weed if you can Grow it in you're own backyard?

I keep seeing people here saying weed should be legal and that it should be heavily taxed. But how are you gonna tax something that people can grow themselves? It's like taxing tomatos!

Of course I guess commercial weed could have something special in it, like Angel Dust or Coke, but still I don't think it would be worth it.

Lets discuss this, I'd really like to hear what you folks think.

How many tomatos do you grow in your yard each year?
How much tobacco do you grow in your yard each yeat?

If you walk into any grocery store, you'll see how consumers actually buy things and are automatically taxed on them at the register based on the Fed, state and local taxes per item type. Just because you CAN grow something doesn't mean it's untaxable.

You wont grow great shit. Great shit, in quantity, is a full time job, that requires PERFECT, NATURAL conditions. Hydro bud SUCKS compared to the real deal in medium acidity, high nutrient soil, grown under Jah Sun, instead of some Baba System Electric Screw Lights.

Even if you wanted to set up a three stage high end hydro facility, it would cost you 50k to get going, and what would you do with the excess crop? If you smoke it all, you will be a Zuchini Brain in no time flat. If you try and sell it, you get back into the "go to jail for selling it" shit.

Taxing dope, making dope legal, is the way to GREAT dope, consistently GREAT, less expensive dope, that creates revenues and creates no kids getting shot in drive bys.

Lots of people homebrew dude with great results. If weed becomes legal lots of people will grow their own.

I don't think the gov't would release ultra-powerful weed. They SHOULD, since you would have to smoke way less so there would be less health consequences. But I think there may be a kernel of truth to BeefyBull's argument--there would be different grades available.

I mean take a regular pot smoker and give him something where one hit will basically almost paralyze you and you're looking for trouble.

Actually, since I'm Canadian I can speak on this with some high degree of accuracy.

Growing dope in your home is actually very easy. As a hobby you can reap 1-2lbs of quality (rocket/wheelchair pot) weed in your basement or attic with minimal setup costs. Soil setup would be under 1000 can. dollars. Hydro would run you about 1500 can. dollars. Yes, that IS right. Sorry chef but 50k is strictly for high production commercial (and even that figure is a little high).

Once you get the genetics, the rest is just aquired skill. As for growing it in your backyard (outdoor grows). Believe me! BC bud is often grown outdoors and some of the better outdoor stuff makes that commercial hydro look like ditch weed.

As for the legalities of distilling alcohol where it is illegal to do so for your own consumption, it is illegal cause you could wind up either poisoning your self, or blowing your home up. It's not gonna happen with beer or wine, but can occur with the distilling process (if your an idiot).

Also don't forget that in Flin-Flon Manitoba, Canada (Yes, Flin-Flon is a real place here) our govt. has been growing medical pot for the last few years reluctantly. The stuff they grew there unfortuneately is indeed absolute shwag/garbage! Reason being that they firstly wanted to maintain THC levels at a lower level, secondly the idiots ground up leaf, stem, and bud to be consumed instead of straight bud. Prairie Plant Systems is the company that got the 5 million/5 year contract from out federal govt. to produce this weed. Politics until recently held up the distribution of that weed to sick and dying med-pot users.

Canada is currently on the verge of decriminalizing marijuana. However, DON'T BE FOOLED!!! This bill that is being passed is actually a hidden attempt to shut down pot use rather than loosen it up. IF you bother to actually read through the bill you will see that the proposal is that for people possessing under 15 grams of pot a fine will be imposed. For people who cultivate (for personal or commercial) the sentances will have minimum sentancing rules and will be MUCH, MUCH stiffer. Behind the initial teaser (the under 15g fines) is a very strict and brutal law that stems from our justice minister bowing to political pressure from YOUR government in the USA. The DEA is actually operating in Canada and ingnoring our soverignty as a country. Further pressure is being put on our government to enter the failed drug war you folks have in your country. Unfortunately, this decriminalizing bill is a complete farce designed to get support up front and then hit Canadians from behind with heavy sentances for some poor hippie who wants a backyard full of weed. Further, the heavy sentance is based on numbers of plants being grown. As anyone in the weed world knows this is idiotic (if you know what a sea of green technique is, or mothering, cloning etc. you will realize that for a small operation you can get nailed and billed as a huge grow op).
