how can i really delete files?

i had some pics saved on my hard drive and deleted them, and emptied my recycle bin, are they really gone? and if they aren't, how can i get rid of them? thanks

Windows simply renames deleted files, I forget the ASCII character they use, but it can't be recognized by the OS.

When/if the OS needs the space it writes over them.

Get a mac.

You need to wipe the freespace.

usually using the wipe option with Norton should be OK, unless you wanna hide from law enforcement then forget about it. Take your HD out of your comp and burn it......
