the economy is shit and it's getting worse.. i have heard things about 5 dollar per gallong gas in the future, etc...

this ALL relates to the top, if not for george we wouldnt be in this situation... but how bad will it end up being? 1929 all over again?

my mom will lose her job within a year or so (ford motor company) and what does a 53 year old lady do to survive after that? Mary Kay aint gonna cut it.

i worry about this a lot... i barely scrape by every month now!

The economy is rolling. High GDP. Low Unemployment. Rising wages. How is it in the dumpster? Gas is high but its being driven by concerns inside oil producing nations. No one knows what will happen with Iran and other major oil producers. Even without that remedying itself it should fall by 75 cents a gallon or more by the end of summer.

Don't worry Good Bro the economy is fine. Hope things work out for your mom though. That's rough. That's why I BUY AMERICAN!!!

Things r bad if u live in the boondocks. The cities are expanded, bursting at the seams, houses and salaries at all-time highs, and bustling with jobs.

I see few in big cities complain about employment. Lots of jobs in whatever field ur in.

My life has never been better.
I've observed ups and downs since WW II and our nation is still strong.

I do look forward to 2008 when we will see Clinton vs McCain.
I expect Clinton to win. Then we'll see if she and the Dems can
correct all these wrongs committed by Pres Bush. :)

Not to get into a politcal battle, but Clinton will be just another loser. One, I don't think our nation is ready to have a woman at the helms of our nation. I think we will see an African-American president before a female one. Two, I've read some stories of her behind the scenes from former employees. They say she is two faced and a racist.

Dem or Rep, somebody needs to step up to the plate.

interesting that you all think the economy is fine... any idea why they say we are heading towards an oil based recession in the next 2 years?

that doesnt symoblize a good economy...

it could be me being in detroit and watching this city die... watching the big 3 close plant after plant.

OIL is just one aspect of the economy. The high prices are just because of foreign policies and a concern to limit uses. We will eventually become very independent of foreign oil and these hard times will be the reason. Go by a hybrid. lol

There is just no restrictions on oil. The government won't step in because the oil industry has to much power. The demand allows them to raise the price of gasoline, plus with the instability with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and possibly Iran, there is skepticism of the actual amount of oil that will be able to be imported into the US. The reason those plants are closing are because nobody is buying American cars. When these American companies flood the market with cars that get 40+mpg, there will be major improvements.

as long as their are hot chics to chase, wieghts to lift and alochol to consume and fast cars to ride around in...i am chill what more is there?

Buying American doesn't mean ford or gm. IN 1997 the most american made car was the honda accord. I'm not sure which is now. I did a report on it for government class. If the american brands would close in other countries and bring back the work here, that would bring jobs back. Not buying an american name. If employees weren't so greedy about wages and benefits, ford and gm could bring back those jobs. If employers weren't so greedy about profit margin they could bring back those jobs. They need to get a productivity bonus or some sort of incentive for people to work their asses off. Pushing a button for 22 bucks an hour just seems a little ridiculous to me. Especially when the receptionist at a desk answering phones talking to assholes all day is making 8 bucks an hour.

If the economy is fucked up I couldn't tell yesterday at the mall.

Hardly a parking space to be had and a line at every cash register.

a lotta midwest cities are dying except for maybe chicago. Places like cleveland and detroit have a lot less people than years past.

Don't know if you are joking but I have a feeling you aren't

This is the number one reason why this country will never change. Dumbasses like this who are only interested in such immature and ridiculously shallow items. And, unfortunately, there are more and more kids and even adults who think items like this are the only important issues in life

I think it depends on where you live. I've been in the D.C. area for almost 5 years. There are lots of jobs and, despite the real estate market slowing down over the past year (here), there are neighborhoods where growth is still going on. Companies are still offering great to decent benefits.

Gas prices have affected people in this area, however the public tranportation system in this area is pretty good. The trains are more crowded than normal. But, that's good for the region because then the counties will invest more in public transportation.

a finacial analyist came on the radio today at 1330hrs and said, " never in the history of the US have we been in such national debt, we are currently borrowing money at the rate of $3-4 BILLION dollars A DAY from the poorest countries"....i think we are on "borrowed" time....

The economy is doing great.

It is a shame (seriously) that your mother is losing her job.

Ford (and all the "big 3" auto makers) let wages and benefits get out of control. Then, employees and unions decided they'd rather milk what's left instead of resetting wages and benefits back down to competitive rates. Essentially, they chose 3-4 years of super-pay in exchange for 100+ years of lost jobs for generations to come.
