Home Gym

Need some advice on setting up a home gym.

Was thinking about getting a adjustable bench, with db's good for up to 100lbs and just do supersets.

Than in the future when I got this stuff paid off and money saved. Go out and buy a squat rack and some weights.

i know here in CA there are always sales on olympic bars with 300lbs of weight (including bar) for under $200...
a full set of dumbells up to 100 is going to cost a lot more than that...
id go for the bar and a squat rack personally... there is a lot more you can do with that than a bench and dumbells...

Well bench is around $300, and squat rack is $500-700. Thats not even including 12% sales tax. So I'm almost $1000 never mind the weights. Probably be $500 worth of weights easily. So I'm looking at $2000. Be nice if I could get a loan for that, but doubt it.

In my opinion, the bare-bones basics are a good olympic bench & weights, a set of hex db's or at least a pair of db handles for oly plates, and a preacher bench or attachment. A pec deck and hi/low pulley machine is also very important, if you can get those.

Yeah bro deff check out used, well worth your time and effort.
I would stick with he Oly bar and weights and a bench. For squats you could do Zherchers and use the steele sawhorses that you get at Lowes or Home Depot to lift the bar off of.
This gets you out of having to have a squat rack.
The Zherchers do amazing things to your quads, hams, erectors, shoulders and biceps.

I live in norther bc, not much people do weight lifting. Its kind of like texas lol.

Zherchers look nasty and tough on the arms lol.

I'm going to start with a bench and go from their. Maybe keep plugging it out at the gym till I can get some more money. Gym doesnt work well in my schedule so thats why I want home gym.

Well Im old so I use a pc of foam pipe insulation where the bar and my arms connect, makes a world of diff too. When I am comfortable I can concentrate on my lift.

Lol More people in Texas should go to the gym at home or elsewhere. We have a lot of fatties but it's getting better. Too much good Mexican food.

craigslist or garage sales.

but still why not go to a gym?

My work schedule would require me to get up at 5am to work out than do a 10-12hr day of work. It was starting to affect my recovery and was rushing my work outs.

Plus my golds gym here is full of pussies in the morning. So It almost takes away motivation.

yeah, same with alabama and every other southern fried food state. I was in Montana this summer and there was maybe 5 gyms in the whole state.

Yeah I tried it today. Did 185x5 and it was a little tender on the arms. But my form was better than doing regular squats. I almost like Zherchers better. Plus you look badass doing them lol.

I like them cuz for some reason they dont make my shitty battered knees hurt, dunno why but thats how it is. You can go very low if you work on where you put your arms and I have seen guys do 4 plates/ side too. So whats not to like???

Now you just need to get a decent bench and the sawhorses and youre all set to go at home. Dont need to worry about a spotter on the bench cuz you can use the sawhorses. Dont need a power/squat rack cuz you are doing zerchers. For doing your squats you use the sawhorese to lift the weight off of. So see dude? Youre ready to launch at home.:p:D.

haha well I need someone to hook me up with some 45's :D. 8 should be good for now. I'm going to try and work a deal at the one gym that needs new shit.

...just to name a couple off the top of my head...

Thread Starter is making a mistake by not buying a bar and a rack FIRST. Could go all out and buy a few bands and scrap the dbells as well.

Have a basic rack made at a welder shop. Buy a bar. Get some bands. Get a few plates as you can.

Chest: Floor Press, flyes with bands, press with bands, lots of band varitions
Shoulders: Shoulder press with bar (seated or standing), lots of band work, upright rows,
Triceps: Floor Press with close grip, skull krushers, lots of band stuff
Biceps: barbell curls, band curls, etc...
Back: barbell rows, band rows, chins (bar over rack)
Legs: SQUATS!

You will spend half as much and get twice as much from it.
