Home Gym Opinions

Looking into Purchasing a home gym to avoid having to miss training due to what seems to be unsolvable circumstances.

Any opinions, suggestions, etc that can be given on equipment would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get something affordable but versatile. I need to be able to do an entire workout at home. Here is a link to a piece of equipment I am looking at now...

Opinions?

i would recommend getting a decent power rack and a bench. with that and a good send of plates and a barbell, there won't be much you can't be able to do at home. after that, pick and choose what you specifically need. a ghr and reverse hyper are two things i wish i had at home, but alas the gym in only 3.5 miles from my house

Thanks Dev.. This was my inital plan esp when I push back into PL'ing training. Right now I am trying to get ready for a Figure Comp and need something Fast, as cost friendly as possible, and versitile. I prefer the Free weights over pully systems anyday but I'm gonna need it for some exercises.

I designed a reverse hyper ;) Hopefully I will have someone get this built before the end of the year.

frisky!!! no way.
i'd get a bench, power rack, bar, buncha plates and some dumbells. add onto it if necessary but you can find a better freeweight system than that WITHOUT a smith thing....

I have a flat bench, a few weights, dumbells etc. My problem lies in when I need to do extensions, lat pulldowns, rows, etc.

Damn I miss powerlifting... LOL

The smith thing is a curse I know

def get a power rack, you can find lots of good ones for decent prices but the freight shipping is what is expensive. i got a good one from new york barbells and they have free shipping on most things, i think mine was 349$ with free shipping, i also picked up a lat pulldown machine. i do most of my asstance work with bands. you know what theese are if you used to p/l. there are 100's of assist exercises you can do with them, i have pics of low rows, bands assisted pullups, etc, that i do with bands. i can post them if you need any ideas. i have everthing i need in my home gym, and have less than 1000$ in all of it, and that includes my boards, bands, chains, and all the weight and bars. you can find good deals on used gym equip as well on ebay, and there is a site that sells used equip, i can't remember what it is but i can find it if you want.

Power rack is a MUST! I also will be ordering a set of bands and chains. Have boards and a box already also had a APF regulation bench built. I purchased a SSbar after I had my surgery... so I'm slowly building up my equipment.

Just purchased a home gym to get me thru the acessory work. But I will be also adding in more PL'ing equipment in the mix.

I would love that website if you can find it. ;) Thank you!

www.usedgymequipment.com and i got my rack and pulldown from www.newyorkbarbells.tv they have free shipping.

If you have the space, you can get whatever the hell you want, but like many here, I reccomend to start with a power rack and adjustable bench w/weights.

I have a 24 x 15 garage that houses a power rack, adjustable bench, a dip / chin tower, a single cable station, DB's from 15's to 75's, two standard straight bars, ez curl bar, hammer bar, and about 1,000lbs of plates. All accumulated from about 25 years of use. My heavy bag has the 1984 Olympics logo, I have a pair of 25 lb standard plates that belonged to my brohter in the 70's...I love using the old stuff.

The only thing I wish I had would be a standing calf raise machine.

The garage has absolutely NO HEAT in the winter and leaks like a mother - if it is a particularly snowy storm, I get 5 inches of snow inside the garage in spots...I love it. It is the Bluesman's Powerhouse Gym. (That is the sign my wife put on the garage.)

Good luck with yours - you will love being able to work out in peace, to your own music, never having to wait for equipment or get yelled at for chalking up the whole place.

I've been threatened to get kicked out of one gym for using chalk even after I said i'd wire brush and clean my own mess.

Ok Guys ........ so I dumped the marcy and found this...

No smith machine ;) but has a built in Power rack and dip station... can also do pull ups..

Only came with 250lbs of weights but thats an easy problem to fix :)

All the acessory work I need for my training now can be done on here as well as Hopefully (will see once its up) Rack pulls, band suspenede GM's and Free squats.

i would buy your plates at a place like sports authority or Dicks they usually sell a 300lb set with a bar for $100..just get yourself a better bar and youll save on shipping all that weight
:)

Picked this one up at a local sporting good store that also has the oly weights... I think its 119.00 for 300lbs.. not to shabby.

I will need more weight for my next go round in PL'ing.. I plan on breaking the 300lb on Squat... Gonna shoot for 350 ;)

The only thing I am gonna fight with is a platform... might have to have one built. Not sure if the pads I was looking at absorb the impact when I DL..
Sure don't need a cracked slab.. :worried:

Right now I have the Weider OLY bar that came with the Equipment.. I also have a Safety Squat Bar, but I want a DL bar too. Gonna hit Midwestbarbells and see what they have there ;)
