i went to walmart lastnight to buy some paint and other random supplies to repaint the kitchen and i'm walking towards the checkouts and this cute cashier smiles real big and waves me over to go through her line. I put my crapolla on the belt thingy and she rings it up and still has this little smerk on her face. The old dude in the paint section gave me a few sample cards to take with me. I left them ontop of the paint can and she picked them up and had a weird look on her face. I told her the guy in the back said to take them with me and she said "oooh, i was like wtf is this?" I then noticed she was deaf! no hearing aids no nothing just the quite tone of voice when they try to talk and sign at the same time. Normally that would have bothered me, mainly because i never know how to react in those situations. I was really calm and relaxed by her though... could have been the smile though. I really don't know where this thread was going. just amazed by it i guess.

no!!! I honestly didn't have time to think about anything like that or even hitting on her, or getting her #...

lol. I have a few deaf older members of my family. Deaf old italians - it's very interesting. My Auntie Elvina and Uncle Romalo are both deaf and are ALWAYS the loudest ones at the dinner table. I had no choice growing up but to be comfortable around deaf people b/c if you tried to pull the "just don't look at them and they won't interact with me" trick, Auntie Elvina would hit you until you looked at her. lol, she was awesome. So I learned to communicate decently well with them.

I worked at a ticket office in a casino a few years ago and an older deaf couple came to my coworker's window. I could tell she didn't know how to deal with them so I came over and helped them. once the transaction was over they asked me if I had people in my family that are deaf, cause I was pretty good at talking to them.

Thats great KB! :) I used to volunteer at an old peoples home and majority of them were deaf and blind.. Like you I was pretty comfortable communicating with them! To me its a great pleasure to help others and for others to be comfortable around me.. I love the old peoples home.. sometimes it is quite emotional.. :bawling: :)

i've never really been around deaf people before. No friends or family memebers like that. I'm not rude to them and i don't avoid them at all. Its just i don't want to be a dick and kinda like raise my voice or move my lips slow so they'll understand but i seem to do that anyways mainly with old people though haha. I didn't try to adapt to this girl though. It was just an impression like we knew eachother for years. That's what i'm amazed about.

Be prepared for next time ...
