Hiv And Heterosexuals

HOW MUCH AT RISK ARE YOU IF YOU HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX WITH AN INFECTED WOMAN IF BOTH ARE YOU STRAIGHT, DON'T DO DRUGS, AND DON'T GO ANAL? WHAT ARE THE ODDS VERSUS HOMOSEXUALS HAVING UNPROTECTED ANAL SEX?

I don't know the exact statistics but there is always a chance and in my book it not worth playing rulette with my penis. Now I am married but even before I was I called upon Trojan man, every time. Well until I had been together with the girl for a while and both of us got tested. Shit, I still know the number to Planned Parenthood.

:fro:

Back in da day when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore but sometimes...............

There is a little risk associated with the behavior you first described. I am not sure of the exact number, but I think it is less than 2%. The acidity of the vagina helps bigtime in keeping this number so low. But, One thing that you left out and is perhaps the most important (or at least tied with blood sharing) is whether the woman or man has had an STD before. Any kind, doesn't matter. Healed or unhealed STDs leave small breaks in the skin and is an easy portal for HIV entry. With a previous STD I think the chance increases to somewhere around 92% (don't quote me on the numbers--I learned them in my virology class last year--but it's a ballpark number).

If you use nonoxynol-9, -11 or other contraceptive jelly, it will kill the HIV and keep her from getting knocked up.

Condoms help, but only act as a barrier, so if you get a leak or touch the condom afterwards, you put yourself at risk. With the jelly, the virus dies.

Using the two together would be best.

Be smart and be safe.

THANKS USER. THAT WAS EXACLTY THE ANSWER I WAS LOOKING FOR. IT JUST SEEMS THAT PEOPLE MOSTLY SAY HOMOS ARE MORE AT RISK, BUT WHY THEY NEVER SAY. WHY ARE HOMOS MORE AT RISK?

Quite a few homosexual men do not engage in anal sex. I don't know how many, but it is significant. That being said, most do. Most also engage in other sorts of high risk behavior, such as drinking and drugs (inhibit the immune system), iv drugs, and promiscuous sex. These factors combined make homosexual men most at risk.

However, if you look at other high risk groups such as homeless people, iv addicts, alcoholics, etc., their HIV infection rate is just as substantial. This means that it's the lifestyle that causes you to be at risk, opposed to JUST engaging in anal sex.

Additionally, there are three main strains of HIV. One exists primarliy in the hetero non drug population. One exists in the drug population. The other in the gay men population. Supposedly, the gay men strain is the most contagious. But again, you must take lifestyle into account, before making any judgements about that statement.

Most people love to claim that homosexual men are at highest risk without even knowing what they are talking about. Probably due to ignorance and a little fear (one in the same).

I had this physiology teacher back in college explain to the class how "HARD IT IS" for heterosexual's to get aid/hiv......I breathed a sigh of releif...but i don't buy into it...even though a doctor on human physiology, ....i just dunno.

He went on to explain how thick the vaginal walls are, and the penis....also that MOST of the cases of HIV transmission involve HOMOsexual males....this was explained by saying how the penis isn't "meant" to go into the anus/ etc (we all know what i'm talking about)...anyhow....that the anus tears and what not...

like i said i've had a few scary condom experiences (i.e. pull out, half the condom gone)

but good luck
