HIIT and HIT

Difference between & value of doing 20 min HIIT or 20 HIT (no interval, just balls to the wall)?

the interval allows you to burn some fat as well as carbs....low level = fat...high = carbs....

but the after burn is about the same....

you just cant go ALL out for 20 minutes straight

What about endurance value? Which one would help build your ability to increase the intensity? (does this Q make sense?) Because there IS more benefit in doing HIIT and HIT than simply fat loss. :)

HIIT will build a slightly better VO2 max - so yes.....there is a bit of benefit.

the HIIT lets you go to really 100% of max for bursts

HIT doesnt allow that.....you cant run at 100% max intensity for 20 minutes at a time....unless you are an Olympic atlhete...

I"ve actually heard this as the cardio recommendation from a couple different people who train at the national competitor level for serious bodyfat loss. So I wondered.

heard which one??

Two that I used to train w/ - one for the show I didn't do in 2002 (she has trained people like Diane Mossino and I saw her w/ one of the competitors in the heavyweight class at the 2003 NPC Jr. nationals).

ok

they recommended WHICH type of cardio...you mentioned both in the first post

I really dont think the average trainer can handle HIT cardio for 20-30 minutes on a daily basis......it would have to ramp cortisol to a huge degree......

it *might* take HIT for the few weeks when drooping the LAST 5-6 pounds,,,but I just dont see how its more practical than HITI for the average person tryiong to get into AB range bodyfat

That is what I thought. I assumed HIIT was better for increasing CV/respiratory endurance.

But I could see HIT allowing for more muscular endurance - longer duration at high intensity.

Its probably not going to be 100%, i.e. everything you can give like you would in a sprint, but more of a higher speed run than a jog.

I guess you can track your cals on the treadmill......

Personally...I dont see the advantage of HIT.....

you can use HIIT to build the all out interval time....

dunno....I might try it tady at the gym

with HIIT I average 22.5-23.5 cals burned per minute
