High rep squat workout

New member
Most of the time I'm in the gym squatin' heavy but I've been lowering my weight a bit for some different training highs. I worked out with a friend out of town the other day and did 225 lbs. 25x - four sets. Then stayed a bit light on straight legs, leg press, legs curls.....etc. It BLASTED them. Anyone try this? It worked great!

Well. I like to think I know my body very well and second I could barely walk for days. Good times!!!

Bro, don't let these guys get you down. Some things are done purely for the love of iron. They pretend like they don't know this. :bfold:

LoL I'm not knocking hard work, and sets of 25 are CLEARLY hard fucking work!! So props to ffquads for busting his ASS!

I'm just chiming in w/ AB that I don't think "sore" necessarily = long term adaptation. That's all.

After my contest this weekend...I'm going to be hitting some high rep OLY squats again pretty often...

How about one with less reps?

Try this:
Bike for 5-10 minutes (easy pace, to loosen up)

Leg press (full reps - none of that half assed 6" of movement)
2-3 sets of warmups - 8, 5, 3 reps - rest 75 seconds
5 sets of 8-10 reps - rest 60 seconds
(do not lower the amount of weight, so be conservative)

rest 60 seconds
Front squats
1 warmup - 6-8 reps - rest 60 seconds
5 sets of 8-10 reps - rest 60 seconds

Calf work - couple sets of 25 reps (if you feel like it).

not sure about you guys...but i know i dread lifting a little lighter and going for 15-20 reps....alot of pain involved! i'd rather lift for 3-6 reps....but it's great to switch on and off....25 reps at 225lbs is impressive in my book! your legs must have been freaking absolutely burning!!

Following speed squat day, 3 x 2 at 365, 3 x 2 @ 385 and 3 x 2 @ 405, one set every 60 seconds, we would see how many we could do at 365 once in a while.

I hit 365 x 15 and my nephew did it for 17 or 18, racked the weight and hit the floor.

I think Louie referred to that as "lactic acid tolerance training." I called it shit to bed, I'm going home as soon as I can walk again training.

Good stuff bro!!!!

back before my ass died, I used to sometimes finish off a squat workout with max reps @ 225.. getting past 40 was agonizing and I dont think I ever made it to 50

you hit a point where the lactic burn and cardio distress outstrip your ability to lift enough to build muscle, one 'death set' of 15-20 reps with a heavy ass weight is one thing but multiple sets of 20+ is probably at that point

After starting DC a year ago my legs have exploded. I think the widowmaker set has much to do with this. And that is a 20 rep breath set.

So you calling me a pussy, I see how it is... :p

I stay around 365-385 for sets of 8-10. tweakle...Chambewy20...you guys are nuts! I hope to be in that power in about 4 months. We will see....we will see...

I would love to see a video of that!

I am constantly fighting the battle of the "fat arse"...

When cutting I like to do high rep squat workouts...

4 sets of 315 for 20 reps...

But again, I am not trying to put on size...just trying to build a fire hot enough...

Not a bad idea! I might just do that! I would need someone with me to film. I would look like an idiot in the gym, but fu*k it.....

That's nuts! I love it. Maybe puke at the end of the sets in a trash can you keep next to the squat rack. nice.....
