Hey Warik..

Following a speech to the American Society of Newspaper Editors this past April, President Clinton was asked about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: "Should we apologize" for dropping the bombs and "did Truman make the right decision" in ordering the bombing. Clinton replied, "No. And based on the facts he had before him, yes," earning him applause from the assembled journalists. Two weeks later, Clinton stated at a press conference that "even after 50 years," he believed Truman "did the right thing." And "I do not believe that on the celebration of the end of the war and the service and the sacrifice of our people, that that is the appropriate time to be asking about or launching a major reexamination of that issue."

So what you're saying basically is: "So, Warik, are you saying that Former President Clinton is a dumb shit?" My answer? Yes.

Did he end the war? Yes. Did he murder a zillion innocent people? Yes again. I don't see how that is "the right thing."

Like Frackal said on the other thread: If someone blew up the world with an anti-matter bomb, would that also be the "right thing?" By the logic in the "bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the right thing!" argument, blowing up the world would save more lives than it would take. Think about it. Imagine if one day humans learn how to travel faster than light and find that they're not alone in the universe. Humans, like the primitive savages they are, will proceed to pull a "I claim this planet in the name of EARTH!" and kill trillions of aliens. 6 billion humans < trillions of aliens.

Yep. Let's nuke the world. We'd be "saving lives," right?
