damn
being called out on Friday night.
My German is good in writing, speaking it fluidly, that is, without translating in my mind what I'm about to say (or going over the multiple declination cases) still takes me a couple of seconds. What does this mean? I can hold a conversation, the person might thing I think my answers from time to time judginf by the little pauses sometimes.
It is a matter of practice, the more you speak it, the better you get at it.
I dream in english mostly, since I've been working in english non-stop for the past 10 years. While at home we speak exclusively spanish, I sometimes also curse in english, you know, the type you can't rehearse? banging your hand with a hammer? a loud FUCK will come naturally... funny stuff.
for Italian and Portuguese I do need to switch and keep translating, I never use those, only sporadically (vacations and some mails I send/receive, the odd work-related phone call).
EF is doing a great work helping me keep the edge on my english now that I'm working more with National accounts and hence more in German.
Words I have come across here like: taint, vag, chocolate starfish, ballon knot, have proved useful in the business environment.
