your english is the shit.
do you speak german as fluently?

what language do you dream in?

damn
being called out on Friday night.

My German is good in writing, speaking it fluidly, that is, without translating in my mind what I'm about to say (or going over the multiple declination cases) still takes me a couple of seconds. What does this mean? I can hold a conversation, the person might thing I think my answers from time to time judginf by the little pauses sometimes.

It is a matter of practice, the more you speak it, the better you get at it.

I dream in english mostly, since I've been working in english non-stop for the past 10 years. While at home we speak exclusively spanish, I sometimes also curse in english, you know, the type you can't rehearse? banging your hand with a hammer? a loud FUCK will come naturally... funny stuff.

for Italian and Portuguese I do need to switch and keep translating, I never use those, only sporadically (vacations and some mails I send/receive, the odd work-related phone call).

EF is doing a great work helping me keep the edge on my english now that I'm working more with National accounts and hence more in German.

Words I have come across here like: taint, vag, chocolate starfish, ballon knot, have proved useful in the business environment.

spanish was your first language?

yep, I was born in Venezuela and lived there till I was 25, then spent 2 years in Trinidad (Bad English, shit, they even drive on the wrong side of the road, like Tuc) and them moved to Germany, 4.5 years ago

BTW; being bilingual here in Europe is basically the rule, people that go to the University normally speak 3 languages. In the business world you get to see people speaking 7 languages in the same day (my boss used to do that all the time).

Belgians/Dutch are notorious for this, it seems that the smaller your country or the more up north you live, the more languages they speak.

The latins (french, spanish and italians) are BY FAR the worst. They ONLY want to speak in their own langauge and most don't even care, plus their accents are REALLY strong
