Hey accountants!!!! Help estimate my tax return

If I make 40 grand a year, and I have enough write offs to take me down to the 15% tax bracket, do you think it is possible to get around 3 grand back???
My accountant last year said I would since I had just bought the house in October of 04. But when I went turbotax.com it said I would only get a grand back.

Go thru www.irs.gov & use their turbotax option to file for free....

I can't guess-timate your return as I don't really have enuf info...

see I did that, and that site said 900. I was wondering why the accountant who does my taxes everyyear would tell me over 3 grand and that says 9. Was going to use that to pay off some credit cards.

the accountant could be inputting false deductions...it happens....it's one option...

Crap. Reminds me of a funny story.
My buddy who lives in orlando now, found out that he owed the IRS 4 grand last year and he did not have it. So, he called up some accounting place and made and appt. He went to the address, but it was a Pawn Shop. He walked inside and was like "uh, hey, I am here for my taxes?"
The guy at the counter was like "Oh ya man, in back". So he walked in back to a table where some old lady was sitting with a computer. They started and he said that she was like "ok, so you gave to charity right?", he was like "uh", she says "sure you did"
He ended up getting a 300 dollar return. Pretty stupid but still funny if you knew the guy

well lardo, I shouldn't speak too soon, but that's about the amount I got back and I made just 5 or 6 thousand more than you at my last job. I don't think it varies state to state but if it doesn't then that's about what you'll get

I don't think you claim many deductions unless you are self employed/independent contractor do you?

ya I am single, will file head of household, no kids.
have over like 11 grand in write offs.

rule number one:

never let ef members know you are an accountant or you will be barraged with pm's and people actually get mad when you don't answer them... what's the point of developing a reputation for being good if no one pays for your advice!
