Just wondering if anyone has had a hernia before. Ive got one and im wondering how long ill be off from my training, and any other info anyone might have.

Had the op when I was seventeen, and need it again at 24. You won't be walking for a couple days, then with a cane for several more. I would say you would have to subside for a month before doing anything that is going to put strain on your gut - or your going to bust it open.

had one about 10 years ago. Was layed up for 3 monthd before I could workout for real. Dr, said I could lift 10 lbs for every week I was post surgery. Worst part was I drove a stick shit, and the hernia was left anguinal, so I couldn't drive antwhere for 2 weeks.

I did manage to have sex 2 days post surgery though!!LOL

Had one last summer. Doc gave me the okay a week later to do 'whatever you feel like doing'. Well, it's back and worse now than before. It doesn't hurt but my fucking belly button looks like a baseball.

I have had 2 of those operations. One the standard way and one with mesh and laproscopic.
Make sure you get mesh and laproscopic procedure. The recovery time is shorter and the chance of a re-occurance is much less than the standard method.

Even with laproscopic and mesh, you still will be out of the gym for about 2 weeks. Then start back lightly and build up slowly. If it hurts-stop.

hernia

Look... I'm an OR nurse, and I see hernia repairs every day. Every one is different, though there are common locations where these occur. What lays one person up for months, may only lay another out for a week.

Hernias will occur in different sizes, and require different means of repair. Some can just be pushed back in and sewn up, larger ones might require reinforcing mesh to hold things in. In any case, it is like any wound and should not be stressed until it has had a chance to heal. Squats would definitely be a post hernia repair no no in almost any instance.

I had one 2 years ago. I kept me out of work for 3 days and out of the gym for about three months. I tried to go back and just do some light curls and the pain hit and made me want to puke, so I laid off and took my time recovering.. take your time, it will all come back and you will be better than new.

Alright, so now for all the people that are afraid of hernias, like me, let's have someone tell how we can avoid'em. Lots of ab work or what?
