Here's an idea . . .

I'm not going to attempt to argue whether the Bible is right or wrong, that's a battle that will probably never be over.

Here is my simple plea, before you post on a religious thread, pick up the Bible and read it (at least some of it). That makes you qualified to give your opinion. Don't recite some shit you've heard, check it out for yourself before you start shit-talking Christianity.

I never knew Hitler was as sick of a fuck as he was until I read Mein Kampf. Now, that I have read it, i can say with conviction that Hitler was a piece of shit.

I never had any respect for Martin Luther King until I read some of his writings and speeches. After doing so, I realized that he was a great man. Now I can engage in discourse on MLK and actually have valid points that back up my assertions.

So why doesn't everyone take the same approach to God? People feel like they can make all the general yet authoritative statements about God, but they've never even seen a Bible.Get to know what he wrote, what his thoughts and commandments were, and then argue that they're either completely right or complete bullshit.

That's how arguments should work.

Good Post bro...

One better, read a few religious books.

I have read the entire bible(several versions) parts of translated Koran, TORRAH(sp?), Some Far Eastern philosophical texts(Hindu,Shoalin, etc)...

Ignorant opinion is much worse than no Opinion at all.

I'll play the devil's advocate here. What about all the bible thumping Christians that have never read the bible and are just spoon fed whatever the church dishes out? I would bet that 95-99% of all good "Christians" haven't read the book start to finish either.

You could be right. It's a tough undertaking to read the book from start to finish. I've only read about a third of it. Some from the beinning, some in the middle, and some at the end.

But wouldn't an argument or discussion go much more smoothly if both parties actually had experience with the topic at hand? That's my only point in this thread.

i've read as much as you...

how much have you read on other religions?

Why must you argue? If you believe in it, believe in it. No one can change your beliefs; but when others offer another subjective view, that is all it is subjective, take it with a grain of salt. You can't beat yourself up because others don't agree.

I took two classes on Judeo-Christian theory and a week long seminar on Shamanism. I also lived with a Wiccan for a year (we got along fine by the way).

But, I haven't ever gone on a thread and said that the Koran is bullshit, and that's because I haven't had much exposure to it.

NO one can proove that Jesus was not the Son of God. So quit making blanket statements that you cannot proove.

and you can't prove that he WAS the son of god.. (btw.. are you sure your god is capable of having a "son".. ).. so you should stop making blanket statements that YOU cannot prove..

just one more note.. if modern mankind.. homo sapiens.. walked the earth for the past 40,000 years (or however long it's been).. why did your god wait 38,000 years to put his son on the planet to spread his word??????

bah.. it's all crap i tell ya.. why can't you see?

Does watching the 10 Commandments count??

On a serious note... the bible was translated during a time in history where there was a great need to control society... some of the stories that were interpreted from the ancient hebrew (or what ever language) could only be read by the members of the clergy... so they had full power to dictate what the old writings said...

I'm sure many of these writings were tailored to the needs of the time... I'm also sure that many of the stories in the bible are bogus... but may have a ring of truth to them, but askewed to favor the Church.

Just my .02... (I believe in God and Jesus Christ as my savior... but it is the "human factor" I lack faith in)
