hematoma

Alright so here it is, I shot some QV winny last week in my tricep. It swelled up pretty bad got all red and hurt something awfull, not just my tri though it was the entire back of my arm all the way down just past my elbow. Its been just over a week now and the swelling, redness, and pain has gone down ( not all the swelling or pain though). I'm in the military so it would be kinda hard for me to go to an actual doctor and tell him whats up so I just went to my senior medic. He said its not an abcess, no specific redness, fever, ect. ect. but he said he thinks its a hematoma and its gonna hurt but something I'm just going to have to deal with for a while, and to be safe just watch out for a fever. It hurts pretty bad still and it seems like I have some adema is he right , is it nothing to worry about, and can someone give me a better explanation of what and how a hematoma is and goes away. Or any tips to help speed up recovery. Thanx in advance

A hematoma is blood that has collected in the surrounding tissue. Chances are you cuased some trauma to a vein in your triceps muscle on injection. The fact you had that much swelling and pain is strange, though.

Since it's been over a week, I'd try alternating hot/cold compresses to speed up the removal of the collected blood; Massage will also help.
